Start off with something casual.

I don't think there is a comfortable way to do it. I changed my style by just doing it. I bought a dress and wore it. I felt super weird but it's not like anyone else knew it. Lol.

Try skirts worn with the same style of tops, jackets and shoes you normally wear.  This way you are only swapping out one item (skirt for pants) and not changing your complete look. It may feel less formal than a dress, and there are so many lengths to choose from.

What about wearing them feels awkward?

I don't like to wear them because I have giant thighs.  I have always had giant thighs and I get a rash when they rub together (even as a child and wasn't overweight then).  I have found wearing a pair of bike shorts under my dress helps me feel more comfortable wearing them.  I was just thinking about this today as I would really like to wear more dresses myself.

Cute!  That would look fine with some cute ankle socks, and a mid-calf length drapey skirt.  Or you could switch to sporty sandles and a short denim skirt.
