SIGAL "Green Tip" of the Day--An Eco Friendly Valentine's Day

SIGAL "Green Tip" of the Day--An Eco Friendly Valentine's Day

Who needs pink and red when you can have green? This Valentine's Day, don't forget to show a little love for the environment.

Each year, Americans spend billions on blossoms for their loved ones without realizing the environmental consequences. Countries like Ecuador and Colombia, which supply us with the bulk of our cut flowers, rely heavily on pesticides to ensure these blooms enter the States bug-free.

This Valentine's Day, show your main squeeze--and the planet--just how much you care by purchasing an organic assortment instead. Find sunset roses, stargazer lilies, and even organic chocolates which can be ordered online from Organic Bouquets, or dazzle your beloved with something other than flowers. Here are some distinctive gift ideas:

Jewelry

Zulugrass Jewelry Diamonds may be forever, but these beads give back. Made in Kenya using natural resources (fallen wood and grass) and paired with Czech glass, these beauties come in more than 200 color choices and provide economic opportunity for Maasai women in Kenya. Prices vary.

Bath & Beauty

Through EcoExpress' online site, you can send the Organic Wine and Spa Collection.

Chocolate

Want to send chocolate instead? Check out Green & Black's or NewTree.

Sports Fan

Hit one out of the park with cuff links salvaged from America's most famous stadium seats. Available through RedEnvelope, these Ballpark Cuff Links are coated in the original paint of the arena, representing decades of home openers, double-headers, and grand slams. Prices start at $179.95 for these truly unique and memorable accessories.

Gender Neutral

UncommonGoods has a beautiful, gender-neutral Recycled Wooden Frame that gets its stripes from recycled wooden boats and homes in Thailand, making it a conversation piece even without a picture. It retails for $48.

That is cool, but we don't do gifts.  :)  Which is all good!

Happy belated Anniversary!  It's just one of those over rated holidays, that people companies want to suck more money out of us.  I always get something for my boys though, but I keep the $$ low.  This year, they are getting a v-day card and a stuff animal.

We do little things for the kids too.  I'll have the kids make dad a card and then I'll just sign it.  I always forget to pick up cards for some reason

Thanks!  I got our kids some candy and that was it.  They get a kick out of the Holiday M&Ms in the different colors, so I just went with a bag each.  They all can share each one, plus the candy dish on the end table will stay full for a while lol

MMMM.... M&M's are good, but my oldest has ADHD, so sugar and him just don't go.  Holidays like this are tough when you have to watch his intake on sugars.

We do little things for the kids but hardly ever get each other stuff and if we do it's something we can use again or has meaning to it. One year I got Jake the wall sized picture of the Canes winning the Stanley cup, which still sits on our wall in our living room.

We do little stuff for the kids and the kids pass out valentines at school. This year we made teacher gifts and I made dh a rice heating pad and bought myself a potted flower that can be transplanted outside come spring. It's not a big deal to us though.
