I posted something similar in another group and it was suggested I bring it here. Which I think is a great idea and have no idea why I didn't think of it.
So here is my issue:
DD (10.5) is a very intelligent kid. She also has some very amazing qualities, but my reasoning behind this post is to address some 'negitive' qualities that she struggles with. Qualities that can be very strong positive qualities...IF they were guided in the right direction. Now I've spent the last 10.5 yrs attempting to guide them and while I wouldn't say I've failed, I would say I have done all I can do w/ the developmental psychology and early elem skills I have. So I am considering 'religion'. More so spirituality. Now, we are a rather non religious household. I was born and raised Catholic and have a vast understanding of Christianity and other high profile religions. Dh is an Atheists and always has been. We celebrate Christian holidays, but not the Christian values behind them. The kids are very familiar w/ Christianity (Catholicism as well as Baptists) and DD for one has no interest in it (nor do we). All in all we are not fans of religion. Spirituality on the other hand, I would consider myself spiritual.
Now that we have a little background here are my thoughts. DD needs something that will help ground her, give her a sense of personal responsibility/accountability, as well as something that can help channel her 'over' emotional nature. She feels 'to hard' and acts on emotions w/o thinking. On top of that she is very strong willed. This leads to ALL of our issues w/her. I have worked hard not to break her spirit and have no desire to do so, I've also worked hard on teaching her how to handle her emotions. BUT conventional methods have not really worked (shown the amount of success I was hoping for by now). So I decided to turn to spirituality. I do believe that spirituality is necessary for some people. And I think it would really benefit DD. But as I've mentioned earlier I am only really familiar w/ high profile religions and have no interest in religions that focus on 'Gods plan'. I want something that will help her w/ her personal struggles, something that will give her a strong sense of individual responsibility/accountability as well as channels her emotional energy. While I'm sure it can be argued that any religion could do this, I am only (at this point) interested in earthy religions (for a number of reasons that simply are not easy to articulate). So I came in here for input on earthy religions.
So far I have done basic research on the following:
Paganism (we are attending a couple of festivals this summer)
Wicca (attending a summer festival).
Native American religion (this is vast and I haven't gotten very far)
and Voodoo (not demystifying voodoo)
Any other suggestions would be wonderful, as well as any input on what I have listed.
Thanks in advance
