I just started thinking about all the chemicals I was breathing in when cleaning and that started the ball rolling. This was before the whole "green" movement.
I realized how much trash my family threw away each day and kept thinking about recycling. I'm not full scale green but slowly getting into it more and more. I love the thought of it.
I think it was politics. How much does it hurt to have countries that are hostile to the US have us by the kahunas because of oil.
Well I always knew that things were toxic, but I did not know the alternatives. I always had an interest. In 1989 or so, I worked in a health food bakery called "Sweet Susan" that make magnificent cheesecakes only 140 calories and many other safe to eat treats. It taught me some things about ingredients. This started my curiousity. When I had my kids, I started making homemade babyfood, breastfeeding, and used cloth just because it seemed better to me. My big sister was later diagnosed with cancer. This was a huge scare for me. Then a few months later a complete household safer alternatives were presented to me. And it began. I am not perfect but I am more aware and cautious.
Well growing up I honestly was very inspired by that cartoon Captain Planet. I always cared about the environment and nature. But it wasn't until I had kids that it really started to click for me...live sustainably and as healthy as possible.
I love Mother Earth! I'm a pagan and mother and want to have as little impact on the planet as possible with the means I have available! I also want to leave a better planet for my daughter, and improve my health, and that of my family.
