Feds Warn Of Lead In Lipstick

The federal government is warning those who wear lipstick that your favorite brand could be laced with lead.

A study by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found 400 lipsticks on the market tested positive for lead.

Five L'Oreal and Maybelline lipsticks ranked among the most contaminated.

The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics group wants the government to set limits for lead levels in lipsticks because the toxin can build up in a body over time and poses a particular risk for women of child-bearing age.

The FDA said the lead detected does not pose a safety risk. They said the lead content amounted to 7 parts per million. The average lead concentration found across the 400 lipsticks was 1.11 parts per million

The legal amount of lead allowed in paint is about 600 parts per million.

Learning, language and behavioral problems in children and lower IQs have been linked to lead exposure and it can interfere with development of the fetus in pregnant women.

I know scary right?! I'm about to go through the list again. I skimmed it and saw that I have a couple toward the top of the lead levels... I'm definitely cutting down on how often I wear lipstick. Ill just stick to gloss mostly.

It makes me glad that I was too lazy to wear much makeup while I was pregnant =/
