I started off doing family and friends and then word of mouth through ppl i know just starting telling others and thats how i began. it's good to build up a portfolio so ppl can see the different looks you have done. i know friends who are professional MUA make business cards. . i know others put ads on craigslist. there is another website called model mayhem aswell you can try there. When you do start just make sure you have things that you keep just for your clients. like making sure you sanatize your makeup and brushes and all that sort of stuff. In some states you dont need a license. unless you plan on working in a salon then you do.  look into where you live to see if there is schools that teach you how to do makeup.or if you need a license. all states are different

Check your states laws on practicing. Find out if you need to be licensed bc I know in new jersey you can be in biiiiig trouble if you get caught running and practicing anything cosmotolgy related without a permit or license

I have a small photography business. I have had several shoots where people wanted a particular look, and I had a girl I know come do make-up for me. Maybe try to find some freelance photogs in your area and see if you can do some work with them.

Oo and I was just thinking. How old is your DD? Make some business cards up and have her give them to her friends and other girls at school. Especially around prom, homecoming and graduation times. Maybe even make a few flyers and see if the local high schools would be willing to hang some of them up when there are special occasions coming up.

Just put yourself out there as much as possible. Offer them a free hair do if they pay to have the make-up done or vice versa. It is all about word of mouth and just getting your name out there.

I would think you do it the way most of the ladies do nowadays. Make yourself a artist! You should do videos, make a blog, get ome sponsers,do reviews, use models to demonstrate your techniques on(of course volunteers) market your business by word of mouth, church, womens organizations..e.t.c

make your name popular in the community, when someone is having a wedding to call you, when prom is happening call you, when someone needs professional pictures done they can call you for makeup!

Thyere are Freelancing sites on the internet too,I am not sure which is the best because I have seen some really low paying gigs...third world country type of pay. But anyway you set the bar,how much is your services worth? are you willing to travel?...e.t.c all these things to think about.

I agree, put yourself out there, give offers, shop parties, weddings etc. CL ads, friends, family, etc...High school are also a good place.

I think once you hear back from the state, go for it, even if you have to take classes to get licensed.
