Where to start?

I have lots of time before my daughter starts school (she's 19 months). But I've heard of unschooling and would like to learn more.I've also heard of John Holt, but he has tons of books and I don't know where to start.

Any advise is appreciated!

Oh my! I just saw that this was from the 19th. I really haven't been on here in a while, have I?

I highly recommend starting online. It's quick and easy and there are LOTS of unschooling voices here. Try these for starters:

http://joyfullyrejoycing.com/

http://www.sandradodd.com/

http://www.lifelearningmagazine.com/index.htm

http://anunschoolinglife.com/unschooling-blogs-websites/

As for which Holt books to read first, I recommend How Children Learn, Learning All The Time, or Teach Your Own.

Hope that helps!

I haven't been here in ages, either!

I'm Fiona's mommy, too --but mine's 21.

I'd recommend starting with John's later work: early, he's working hard toward school reform, and it gets better after he gave up beating that dead horse...

As a basic tip, I'll say: your little one is already unschooling.

It's working, why stop? :D

It has been months for me. But I get ideas from Pinterest that look fun. My dd is almost 16 months she loves a lot of the Montessori stuff and I love keeping her busy while I work on my own homework or housework. Other than that, I read some education stuff that interests me and I am working on an education degree. Ironic I suppose.
