Every year for the first week of July my dad's side of the family gets together to visit. We all head up to my aunt's house in northern Wisconsin. This year we only got to stay 1/2 the week due to work scheduling, but the few days we were there were amazing. They live on what used to be a lake resort. We spend the whole time playing in the lake, boating, fishing, kayaking, hiking and reading. We saw all coherent kind of fish, birds, ducks, frogs, turtles, and we even saw the adorable baby raccoons (last year we saw bears, but this year they passed thru 15 minutes before we arrived). The kids spent all day devising methods to catch minnows and working up the nerve to swim to the floating platform a few yards off shore. It's just such an incredible time and it got me wishing that wet lived in a place more like that. Living in a subdivision in the suburbs doesn't give us a whole lot of diversity. Nor does it give us a lot of room for outside exploring. Luckily we'll be ready to buy in a few years. We're looking into some areas that are far enough away to give us the setting we want for the kids, but close enough to family for it to be an easy trip to visit. Anyway, I just wanted to share our fun from the week. It was certainly this Unschooler's dream!
