I called the cops last night to find out what our noise ordinance is and turns out it's anytime after noon that we are being disturbed. So I told the cop what was going on and she could hear it. She sent someone out but I asked to remain anonymous, they've retaliated enough.
Cop shows up and asks adult 'did you guys call?' Guy says no, obviously. Cop says 'oh okay we got a call about noise here but they didn't specify. Have a good night!'
And they left!! I was Sooooo pissed!!! I just went to bed but if it happens again tonight I'm calling. Every damn night until real action is taken.
Quoting mcr17:um, dont go anonymous next tiime, people call the cops for no reason all the time, if they dont know that its actual problem, how can they help?
Quoting Rosehawk:If you wanted more done you should not have requested to be anonymous. The cops won't tell the idiots WHO called, but they will do more when they know exactly where the stupidity is coming from, and where it's being directed.
Not that long ago I called the cops on my irresponsible downstairs neighbors. He's Mom's Boyfriend (long term) and has anger management issues. She's a lazy parent that has had her kids taken away at least once. One night I heard an angry male voice shouting, then a high pitched child's scream, then some loud thumps. The cops were here within minutes. The Boyfriend claimed nothing happened. While here the cops called me on an unlisted number to get my side of it. After they left Boyfriend came pounding on my door. I didn't answer but he suspected it was me that did it.
Quoting mommy2annaliese:You shouldve came out and said "I called!" and explained that they are disturbing the peace! do you have a HOA in your comunity? We do, and we can complain there as well as call the cops.
Quoting zagomez:oh that would piss me off! Have you tried explaining this issue to your landlord?
Quoting kerryket:I'm sorry, we have had our share in our building, one was a direct neighbor who happened to be bashing his girlfriend into our wall. I had to call time and again, eventually they moved.
I would be calling about your situation again and again.
Quoting Mrs.Pool2Be:I hope that your best friend is able to lend you the money so that you can get out of there, it doesn't sound like it's a safe place at all for your family.
Agreed. I too would keep calling.
They can fuck with you all they want to retaliate... but when the cops get involved and are making repeat visits, their little game should end pretty quickly. But, the cops need to be serious about it.
Quoting LindaClement:
Here we have a basic right, called 'quiet enjoyment' --which has nothing to do with noise bylaws or hours. People have the right to 'quiet enjoyment' of their property (or their tenancy), regardless of the time of day. It doesn't mean they can stop people ever using chainsaws or leaf blowers, but it does mean the noise needs to be purposeful, short-term and not done strictly to annoy others.
I'd call every hour, not every night. 'They're still noisy.' 'They're still noisy.'
Of course, being the bitch that I am, I'd also make a complaint to the authority that oversees the police. Imagine if they'd been responding to a call about violence, and asked the person doing the punching if they'd called?

So do I. We all know who drives which cars too.
You have two choices: Stay anon and have to continuously deal with this harassment. OR, you can stiffen your backbone and tell the cops who you are. If the kids do destroy your property you can then file vandalism charges and trespass them from your property.
Don't be a doormat any longer.
Like other posters have said: If the cops don't know who's making the complaints they can't do much, other than an area check to see that everything looks normal. However, they don't know what normal is unless someone identify's themsleves and tells them just how not normal things really are.

We live in an apt complex and I'm not willing to risk damage to our car
