I Called The Police Last Night

I've posted about my awful neighbors before and it ia dramatically gotten worse. The kids now stand outside our door and blow whistles at all hours, the screaming has increased, they body slam themselves against our wall and windows outside. Its beyond out of control.
I called the cops last night to find out what our noise ordinance is and turns out it's anytime after noon that we are being disturbed. So I told the cop what was going on and she could hear it. She sent someone out but I asked to remain anonymous, they've retaliated enough.
Cop shows up and asks adult 'did you guys call?' Guy says no, obviously. Cop says 'oh okay we got a call about noise here but they didn't specify. Have a good night!'
And they left!! I was Sooooo pissed!!! I just went to bed but if it happens again tonight I'm calling. Every damn night until real action is taken.

If its an every night all night thing I would call every hour or two until it stops every night. I wouldnt call until at least 11pm. I dont know what the law is around here but most the people start to get quiet around 11pm if they are having a party and thats the only time people are out screaming or making noise. Kids dont go out screaming and running around until around 10am.

Oh also make sure your calling the non-emergancy number, not 911. That would get you in trouble.

That is exactly what I would do if I were you. If nothing else they will soon get sick of the cops being at their house everynight and start acting like humans instead of animals

I would get a real looking fake gun and when they start being loud go out there and say the next person who steps onto my property will be shot. In most states you are legally allowed to protect yourself and you are giving them ample warning. Maybe they will get the messege.

Sorry to say you get what you pay for.  There is a reason the rent is cheap and the people who live there in the complex might be the reason why.

Quoting KenzieQsMommy:

It sucks. We have an upstairs and a downstairs. 2bedrooms and one bathroom, more closets than we kbow what to do with and a backyard. All of this and we pay a mere $700/month, no utilities. This doesn't exist anywhere else lol

Quoting kerryket:

That is just how ours is.

Quoting KenzieQsMommy:

Thank you. We love our apt, its very nice inside, largest we've seen in our price range by far. But the neighbors are AWFUL. The landlord knows it and if we move she loses a guaranteed months rent and she'll be hard pressed to find someone who'd put up with this.

Quoting mommy2annaliese:

wow! That is why I ate apartments. Goodluck :(

Quoting KenzieQsMommy:

Its an apt complex. The landlord has been notified several times.

Quoting mommy2annaliese:

You shouldve came out and said "I called!" and explained that they are disturbing the peace! do you have a HOA in your comunity? We do, and we can complain there as well as call the cops.

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.  What happens when someone pull a real gun on her and all she has is a fake one.  If your willing to show a gun you should be willing to use it.  Otherwise get a can of mace.

Did your neighbor file a report?  She should.  That's a verbal threat and if she has any reason to believe they'll follow through, having it on record could be very important.  They need to know that behavior like that will not be tolerated.

Agreed. We have a nice family that moved in next door and THEIR upstairs neighbors had a party, making a mess in the backyard that she and then I cleaned so our children could play there. Touching HER things and telling her she was being rude because it was a party.

Then today the lady told her she would get the family's home invaded. They have a 5 yr old and 8 yr old girls. I told my kids until those a**holes get under control they are not allowed at the neighbors house to play. Our neighbors are welcome over here

File an actual report, don't bother with calls.  The police need to know that you're taking it seriously and so do your neighbors.  We dealt with something like this when I was younger.  We had neighbors that felt since we rented ourhome they had a right to play in our yard (which included trashing it and messing with personal property) because it wasn't "ours" by ownership.  Fact is that it is personal space and it's trespassing.  They started become more physically assaulting as well going so far as to throw household chemicals at us.  We called the cops repeatedly but the neighbors didn't take it seriously until we brought up the assault.  That got their attention.

The law is there to protect you from things like this, as little as some people think the issue is, you have a right to be left in peace.  It's abusive behavior defined legally as "molestation" which is any behavior that has a negative effect on your mental or physical health.  "Pestering" is "molestation."

And on the anonymous thing, don't bother, they're going to know it was you.  Besides which the police normally don't give out the exact "whos" of the complaint.  You can request they keep your identity from the neighbor, but the police need to know who you are.
