There have been so many great vacations it's really difficult to choose one.

There was a road trip from Florence to the French Riviera to Rome with a friend of mine.

There was also the trip through the island of Sulawesi with my then-boyfriend. We just had our stuff, our backpacks and a map. We took a ship from the capital to Makassar, which took 3 days. Each day we'd decide where we wanted to go, and would find some sort of public transportation to get there. We did have a few key destinations in mind, but in between we'd see where our whims would take us. The island is *huge* and the landscape, cultures and people so very different. We met some really interesting and kind people. And we also found out that we travelled pretty well together.

We were gone for about 3 weeks. That was about 14 years ago. I was just winding up my job after the project was completed, and wanted/needed to take a break after some health problem. He was here to do his field study and wanted to explore the country a bit, and we both wanted to go somewhere neither of us had been. We were also a fairly new couple at that time.

I think it might be time for another big trip soon.

Hmmm I have had so many wonderful life experiences that it would be hard to choose just one.  A trip to Hawaii is always good, road trips throught the desert are good.  I wouldnt trade any of the cruises with DD that I have done. Victoria Canada and Canada in general are absolutly beautiful.

Where? Drove from Dallas to Phoenix and then on to Ramona (by San Diego)
With whom? My mother and 4 children (and later my sister and dh & 4 kids)
How long gone? 10 days
When did it happen? Summer of 2002

Let us know all the great details :)

My paternal grandmother had lung cancer and I knew I had a limited amount of time before she would be gone from my life.  So my mother and I both took vacation days and drove first to Phoenix to grab my sister and her family and we all drove to San Diego (Ramona) to visit with Grandma.  It was a wonderful visit.  My father drove from Los Angeles to hang out with us as well.  We hung out at Coronado Beach and spent a lot of time with Grandma.  We were able to get great pictures, look at old pictures, laugh about shared memories, and snuggle.  It was the last time that I was able to lay my head in Grandma's lap while she played with my hair. I was her baby girl!  Growing up she had always told me that I looked just like her and I used to get so mad because she was OLD!!  Now I wish I looked like her, LOL.  She was about 4'10" and 100 lbs. soaking wet.  She was also a spry little thing- and sorely missed.  One of the best things that ever happened to me in my life.  If I am half the Grandma that she was, then I will be satisfied...
