I'm not a vampire, and I don't want anyone else's blood

I just came back from my OB/ gyn and from getting lab work. My hemoglobin is incredibly low, as is my ferratin levels. My Dr. said that I need a transfusion. I am not interested. I don't do other people's blood, plasma, organs, donating.... more power to those that give and receive. It isn't for me though.

So, is there anything that I can do to elevate these levels myself?

Ask your doctor or another doctor. Explain your objections and ask what you can do to avoid needing a transfusion. Sometimes medication can help raise hemoglobin, and red meats, it seems to me. But talk to the doctor. If your levels are dangerously low, it could be harming you- but your doctor should have explained why the levels need to be elevated. Good luck!

Raising your levels quickly...eat things high in iron...like raisons, clams, tofu...drinking things high in iron and vitamins like fruit smoothies (blueberries, strawberries, bananas, oranges)...these are just a few off the top of my head...i will have to do a little research...
