I bought 2 pounds of pastrami, get home, eat 1 piece, then read the label... And it has dairy in it.
Why dairy?! In pastrami?! Hopefully my husband will eat it...:/
Sigh... Lol.
I avoid so many processed foods, but pastrami sounded so good...

Lots of deli meats and sausages contain casein, which is the dairy protein. We either don't get it or we look for kosher labels- kosher is generally dairy free.

This surprisingly has flat out powdered milk in it, lol.
I would've seen it instantly if I'd actually read the label...:P
Well... Now I know, lol

dairy can be used as a binder and even to help retain color so yeah, its used in a lot of things that you would never guess. Especially lunch meats! Hope hubby enjoys it!
