Birth Control, Quiverfull and the Feminist Mantra

Question: Do we have practicing Quiverfull moms in this forum? Please do share with us.

Most of the posts I have been reading on this forum today seem to be hijacked by discussions concerning abortion rights and birth control. I understand abortion rights as a hot topic...but birth control? really?
What does this have to do with the election of 2012? Apparently the focus on socially conservative issues and the attack on progressive rights are a big topic...And the old 1970's Feminist Mantra does seem to apply here: "The personal IS political"
I hear a loud voice coming from the far right expressing anger over including birth control in health plans and some of these discussion seem anti birth control altogether. I am surprised to see so many women coming out against birth control, including it in health plans, and not willing to discuss it as an option with their children.
Having lived in NWA next town over from the Duggers, it makes me wonder. How many of you ARE supporters/practicioners of the quiverfull movement? And if you are, how many children do you have?
I would love to hear from you.
No judgements. Really. I am just curious and it would make me understand your POV better if you practiced this.
The QF Movement along with Christian Patriarchy really scare me.
I know a few families in real life who believe in this as well as a few who just use natural family planning, and they aren't forceful or judgmental about it, as in they don't want to keep birthcontrol from all others just because they don't like to use it, not at all...I've only seen things like that online like cafemom, but at the same time I've only seen mean thing said about the Duggars on cafemom as well.
While I lived in NWA, I never met the Duggars or their children personally. But several people I did meet know them (it is a small area) and only have wonderful things to say about the Duggers and their children. The people I knew in NWA are mostly crunchy Obama liberals who do not support the quiverfull movement but also do not judge other people's choices and they like the Duggers as people...so the Duggers probably are really nice people. Unfortunately, anyone who puts their lifestyle on television will get a backlash. I think they expect it.
Quoting Always06:
I don't believe in it personally. I think birth control is great for people who want it, and that it should be known about and fairly easy to afford... But I also do not like the hateful things I see said about people like the Duggars, she made the choice to do this and that is her right and she shouldn't be judged for a choice she made for herself and her body.

What a fun site :)

The word sounds like a disease of some kind. insanity possibly
Just wondering where all the issues about BC being bad was coming from. Personally, as a woman I can't understand arguing against it. I identify as a progressive Christian and believe that BC is a good thing, not just for women but also the world. I don't understand how a woman can be against BC. However, If it is s from someone in the quiverfull movement, then I know where they are coming from because, from what I understand, it is the fundamental principle of this movement. I am just grateful that we live in a country we can practice our choices and can debate our issues with free speech.
I know a little about the philosophy, but not much. Some of the things I wonder are about are probably the same other folks wonder...Not that you are saying you are, but it is easier to write the questions in this tense.
Is this the way you were raised? Or did you come to this choice as an adult?
The Catholics were probably the first quiverfull Christian religion, even if they didn't call it that..But have since backed away from this POV, at least in the US. I don't think the quiverfull movement is affiliated with any particular denomination. Is it or is it a loose conglomeration of a variety of the more conservative branches?
The Duggers were wealthy before they had all those kids. They are even more so now that they are on TV. How do most quiverfull families support themselves? I find it hard with just two:) and we live very frugally with decent jobs.
Are Quiverfull families evangelical?
I do have questions...While I do identify as Christian (yes, there are liberal Christians), I am on the opposite end of the spectrum theologically speaking, than the far right. And while I like to blow my horn in here to you anonymous folks that I do not know, I am actually very respectful of other beliefs as long as they aren't pushed on me.
Hi : )
I have no problem with women on birth control.....I believe it's their decision. Myself and my husband let God plan our family. I have 5 children with me and 5 with the Lord. After our first one I was on bc for one year. Then dh and I decided to let God bless us with more. Both parents were Catholic (active) and I have only two sisters. I was raised kinda Catholic......I say this only because we only went to Church on Easter Sunday and Christmas and when visiting my grandparents. I didn't start getting active in Church till in my 20's when I came to live with my older sister. I then met my dh and got married. I went from Catholic, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, and now Regular Baptist. I know quite a few families that have 10+ children and still having babies. They are of different faiths yet all believe the same thing of letting God plan their own families. Many of them are self-sufficent....being farmers, self-employed or working within their family. My dh and I are self-employed and hope the same for our children.
It was difficult at times with a few in diapers at the same time.....but with Gods help we pulled thru. My youngest is 12 now so, needless to say things are quite a bit easier : ) The older ones help with the young ones and even the young ones were fantastic for entertaining a baby. Now my children are each others best friends and have a close relationship with each other.
I hope I answered your questions : )
