Okay~ Do you mean the corporations such as Solyndra, who got $535 million with help, specifically from Obama... And then they went bankrupt~
The one and only.
Solyndra Lists California Democratic Party as Creditor Comments 11 The Washington Times reports:
Add that to the list of questions Solyndra executives have yet to answer. Solyndra LLC (SOLY), the failed solar-panel maker that got $535 million in government loan guarantees before filing for bankruptcy, won court approval to pay some of its remaining workers as much as $368,500 in bonuses. YAY!!! not~ |
"The $535 million loan to Solyndra was ultimately approved in 2009 and for months was touted by President Obama as a model of his efforts to create new jobs in the emerging field of clean energy."
Yes. The corporations and banks are the real welfare queens. If I went down to the public assistance office and asked for a bailout because I fudged the numbers on my bank account for too long, then took that money and continued to do the same I would be in big trouble with the state, fined and possible jail time.
Actually, I did know a welfare queen and she wasn't a corporation. She lived off the govt. dime for practically her entire adult life and raised three kids to live exactly as she did. (to her credit, she actually got a job and worked for two whole months before quitting - working is hard).
I would support closing loopholes for corps. and tightening the belt with the welfare lifers.
There are a lot of those welfare queens in my area and some people here on CM refuse to believe that they exist. One of them lives near me and worked for me for about 3 weeks. She came from a welfare career family, she has been one, and she now has three grown kids that have made it their careeer (well the two girls have, the son is in and out of prison). Now I know not everyone on welfare is that way but we've got to make it so these people cannot have welfare as their career and the cycle is broken.

I disagree with both the green energy handouts and the other forms of corporate welfare (GM etc) but I have a question...
A year ago, my hubby finally found a job and we decided to buy a new vehicle. For me! My wish list waas simple...fit 3 car seats, have 4 doors, get 40+mpg. So we went to look at a VW TDI, a Toy Prius, a honda civic, and then we were stuck. We called every dealer around (150 mile radius) and we couldn't find a volt at all. We would have to go the whole way to Cali to see a volt at the time!
The argument...there is no market for it! We bought a toy prius. and I know my grandpa spun in his grave. We are and have always been a Made in the USA family, and we had to buy a Toyota! How do we send the message that we want it? The other day I stopped at a red light with 4 other Prius's (all white BTW) If so many people in our area are willing to buy a Prius (and we live in PA which so often touts the Made in USA mantra) why does Chevy think there is no market for a volt here?
Just wondering how we combat the stupid without mandating it? (I'm dead set against mandating it!)
I don't know that anyone actually thinks that they don't exist, but they certainly don't think they are a big part of the problem. Unfortunately, as our citizenry enjoys it's privacy, we really have no idea what amount of WF is actually abuse. I am sure this family friend we had seemed like she was in 'need'. She was just flat out lazy in the beginning. She was able to stay home as a single mother and take care of her three kids. She had enough dough to pay for her cigarettes though. So she stayed home, smoked and drank at times. She also enjoyed a publicly funded higher education. I believe she had at least two degrees. Wasted public funds since she didn't actually use them to get and keep work.
She also got her medical expenses paid. She ended up dying of cancer (I'm not sure what kind, but I am fairly certain it had to do with her lifestyle choices). She was a nice and very intelligent person. Just lazy and enabled, literally to death.

I'll be honest and say I don't understand why some seemingly normal, middle class folks will fight tooth and nail for corporations to continue to cheat them and our society. Why champion the causes of big business and big banks?
How sad.

There are a lot of them here too. A lot of their boyfriends have "illegitimate" jobs *wink*wink, and they don't report their income. These women SHOP, and they get their section 8 housing, food stamps/EBT, etc courtesy of the tax-payer. They have nicer stuff than I do. I used to donate plasma, and one of the guys was showing off his $500 cell phone at the center one day. He was bitching that his "hoe" needed money to buy the kids shoes. Yeah, a cell phone is way more important than clothing your children. I also overheard a conversation about how great Obama was for "taking care of us". I wanted to jump off of my table and choke that guy.
