President Barack Obama’s favorability rating has fallen to its lowest point in more than a month, allowing two prospective opponents — Mitt Romney and Ron Paul — to overtake him in Rasmussen Reports’ daily tracking poll.

It is the first time since last year that Obama has trailed any of the four GOP candidates in the poll. Both Romney and Paul beat the president by 2 percentage points.

But the polling organization acknowledged that it is too early to tell if the result of Monday’s poll is a blip or if it signals a deeper problem for Obama.

“It remains to be seen, of course, if this is merely statistical noise or a lasting change signaling that the president’s recent bounce in the polls has come to an end,” according to a news release from the company, headed by Scott Rasmussen, author of “The People's Money: How Voters Will Balance the Budget and Eliminate the Federal Debt.”

Just 26 percent of voters strongly approve of Obama’s performance in the White House, while 42 percent strongly disapprove. He has seen a 6 percentage point drop in two weeks, according to Rasmussen's figures.

Romney leads Obama by 45 percent to 43, while Paul leads by 43 percent to 41. The poll shows the president still ahead of the other two candidates in the race: He leads Rick Santorum by 45 percent to 43, and holds a 49-39 margin over Newt Gingrich.

“Paul now joins Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Santorum, and Gingrich as front-runners who have led the president in a single Rasmussen Reports poll,” the company said. “However, it remains to be seen whether Paul can do what those others have not accomplished and lead the president more than once. So far, the only GOP candidate to do that is Romney.”

A particular weakness for the Texas congressman is his standing with female voters, Rasmussen said. Paul beats Obama by 13 percentage points among men, but trails by 8 points with women.

Another interesting aspect of the Ron Paul campaign is his delegate count -- which is often recorded and reported lower than some assess it actually to be.

After the last debate, however, CNN's John King admitted that Ron Paul was actually 2nd in the delegate count.

it's a sad day when Paul can beat Obama for the Democrats.

However, that is still not a good thing.

I think my dog could beat Obama.  Can't wait to see gas prices reach $5.00 a gallon!  Can you say one term president!  I can:)

That would be the only good outcome of the high gas prices.

I would say for 99% of American's, yes it would be the only good outcome for high gas prices.

You can't get Ron Paul's message in sound bytes.  You have to hear him speak, outside of a 30 second blurb on the news or 60 seconds during a debate.  It's easy to promote a message that people are familiar with in a 30 second blurb.  It's far more difficult to get your message out in that amount of time when it's something entirely different.  You need extra time to explain why your ideas will work.  Once people hear him explain why his views are what they are, many get on board.  I think the fact that people are getting out and listening to the candidates speak at various locations greatly contributes to the growth in his numbers.

I watched a Q&A he held in Arizona recently, and one of the audience members stood up and was telling the story of how he came to support Ron Paul.  He said that he carpooled with a man who is a supporter, and they would debate back and forth on the drive into work.  The man said he finally took the stance that he was going to 'prove his friend wrong' so he got online to do his research.  Now he's a Ron Paul supporter.  It's a pretty good Q&A if anyone wants to watch.

You don't have to be judgmental and be like "Oh, he's using his freedom the wrong way!  I want him to use his freedom the way I use my freedom!"  You can't do that. You have to be tolerant.  People say "Oh no, you can't be tolerant. What if they do something you don't like?" Tolerance does not mean endorsement.  -- Ron Paul

How would RP change the gas prices? The president has no control over it.

Not directly.  I mean, he can't just flip a switch and make gas prices decrease, but there are things that can affect gas prices in the way of policy.  Here are the points he makes on his website.  I have no doubt that many of these are going to rub the environmentalist moms the wrong way.

As President, Ron Paul will lead the fight to:

* Remove restrictions on drilling, so companies can tap into the vast amount of oil we have here at home.

* Repeal the federal tax on gasoline. Eliminating the federal gas tax would result in an 18 cents savings per gallon for American consumers.

* Lift government roadblocks to the use of coal and nuclear power.

* Eliminate the ineffective EPA. Polluters should answer directly to property owners in court for the damages they create – not to Washington.

* Make tax credits available for the purchase and production of alternative fuel technologies.

It’s time for a President that recognizes the free market’s power and innovative spirit by unleashing its full potential to produce affordable, environmentally sound, and reliable energy.

And, of course, speculators are involved somewhat in the oil prices as well.  Instability drives speculation, and it doesn't help that there is so much turmoil in the Middle East.  Personally I think things would settle down (some) if we got out of there.

So we aren't concerned about another oil spill? Drill baby drill?
