Joe Walsh clearly has no connection with reality. He once claimed that the only reason President Obama won in 2008 is because of the color of his skin. This past weekend, Walsh repeated his claim again.
Speaking in front of a town hall in Illinois on Sunday, Walsh told the crowd that President Obama is an āaccidental Presidentā who only got elected because he is black.
āAgain, lets not overlook the fact, guys and gals, he was a historic figure. Heās our first African American president. The country voted for him because of that. It made us feel good about [our]self. Iāve said it before, it helped that John McCain was about 142 years old. It helped that the economy was tanking. A lot of these things helped. But he never would have gotten there without his historic nature.ā
Hereās the video:
So according Walsh, President Obama got elected because Americans felt some sort of feel-good obligation. Iām assuming he means āwhite guiltā over slavery. At any rate, President Obama was not elected because of his skin color. Walshās theory doesnāt hold up and hereās why. Letās say Romney wins in November. And letās say liberals declare that Obama lost because heās black. We all know that Republicans would deny this as an outrageous accusation. After all, theyāre not racist, wink, wink. This is where the Republican logic fails because if he wasnāt defeated because heās black, he canāt win because he is black either. But I wouldnāt expect Republicans, especially Walsh, to understand simple logic.
The fact is, President Obama won the 2008 Election because he had a better message and he appealed to more people. Unlike McCain, Obama was not out of touch with the American people. He made an excellent economic pitch which is currently in the process of working, and he promised to get Osama bin Laden if the chance presented itself, which is a promise he kept. President Obama did well with nearly every major voting group, including white people. In the minds of conservatives, people should have voted against President Obama because of his skin color. Theyāve been telegraphing that thought for years.
Walsh knows heās wrong, he just doesnāt want to admit that President Obama out-campaigned and had a better message and plan that the American people gravitated towards. President Obama was younger, more energetic, and had better ideas than John McCain. If President Obama were white, he still would have won that election. The Republican Party didnāt have a good candidate then, they still donāt have one now. Thatās why I expect President Obama to win in November. And when he does, it wonāt be because heās black. It will be because heās still the best qualified person for the job
