Good for your friend, but he has no choice...
The attitude is the effect of being a second class citizen...people have to right to get mad and STRIP rights because they don't like a whole groups attitude (didn't know we were judging all the gays by some that have an attitude)
If I stripped your rights because I didn't support your lifestyle and didn't like your "attitude" would your attitude improve or not?
Quoting erika9009:
I think the attitude is what bugs people and has caused them to push back hard. So hard as in some doing gay marriage bans. Then, you get the "over active" religious people jump on and it just gets messy.
As my gay friend said (at a party, so..) "Stay with one guy the rest of my life, I'll pass).
Quoting sweet-a-kins:
You are offended because of their attitude,,,they have it because they are not granted the same rights as everyone else....thats the ATTITUDE...
Quoting 4kidz916:
Did you not read my reply? I said I don't like either group ramming those displays down my throat so there's no bigotry from me.
Quoting sweet-a-kins:
Straight people do it everyday...yet you make no comment about that ramming down the throat
bigotry is ugly
Quoting 4kidz916:
I'm not opposed to gays being treated like everyone else, I'm all for that and I have nothing against their lifestyle...to each their own. But I do agree with the ramming it down everyone's throat comment. I remember seeing a gay couple passionatly kissing on a news story and then they turned to the camera and said something like did you see that, you'd better get used to it and you'd better like it. Well, I don't care for that kind of public display from gay or straight couples so I don't want either ramming that display down my throat. KWIM?
Quoting bluerooffarm:
My standard line when I saw PDA in the hallway was to say, "That is not how your teacher (Mrs. Gdula) taught you CPR, I'm going to have to revoke your card." I had to say it once to a gay couple. One of them was absolutely elated that I had treated them like everyone else. I'd like to see them just treated like everyone else.
Quoting erika9009:
I think the problem came about with the gay activists "ramming" gay marriage down everyone's throat. That sure irked me.
I remember Gavin Newsom (mayor of San Fransico at the time) said "It's coming whether you like it or not." He said it in such a cocky, "screw your beliefs" way that it just bugged me.
Then, a friend of mine's 8th grade daughter and her friend got detention. Why? They were kissing their bf at a school dance. Yet, when these same two report two GIRLS kissing in the bathrooms during school they were told to "be more tolerate!!!!!" Worse yet, one of the kissing girls parents tried to sue my friend because of the embarrassment.
So, you break a rule and your straight, you get detention. You break a rule and your gay/lesbian, it's ok and the straight people need to be tolerant.
This "ram it down your throat" mentality the activist have is really giving gay/lesbians a bad rap.
I think you mean heterosexuals, not Christians. You would get further if you stopped calling people bigots. I am not denying anyone's rights.
Quoting sweet-a-kins:Christians are receiving special treatment and have been since America's inception...
They need to ram it down the throats of the bigots standing in the way of others rights
what gives anyone the right to DENY a group their rights then bitch when the group fights back?
Quoting rachelrothchild:
Yes, you hit the nail on the head with that. No one should get special treatment.

I see your point but this is not a good example as gay/lesbian didn't have the right to marry before many of the bans.
Now, a good example for me might be the choice of being a SAHM. If "they" tried to ban that, I would be mad. However, I would not use the activist approach at all. I would show how great it is for my kids for me to be home. That's the best example I can think of right now. Maybe one wil pop in my head later.

Children are a blessing and are never inconvenient.............
Why do people use that "ramming it down our throats" comment? Its really old and passe and overused and really kind of icky and pornographic. Christians use that all the time.....its disgusting.
SO, if you want gays to stay out of your church, it sounds like you don't approve of people being born gay and lesbian then, right? I thought God made all of us on earth in his image---think about it.And God wouldn't hate any of his children. We are all God's children, right?
I'm Christian and our church doesn't want the gays to stay out. We welcome all people. And you're right, we should love one another. It's not up to me judge whether or not someone's lifestyle is right or wrong, that's between them and God. People who lump all Christians together as "gays haters" are being just as judgmental as the Christians that judge gays.

It should have ALWAYS been a right....it should have NEVER been illegal...
It's an unconstitutional stripping of rights that exist without anyone granting them....religios beliefs are not grounds for gay marriage to be banned...at least not according to the Constitution.
For decades many gays kept the status quo because they were beaten, murdered and oustracized...so the "attitude" comes from THAt...blame the homophobes and the bigots that put gay people in this position

I'm glad you feel that way.
I don't think all Christians "hate Gays", not even some Christians. in fact I think they just disapprove ,in some cases, but I haven't seen anyone say they "hate" gays. On other threads , I have seen posters say they do want to keep gays out of their churches....Not you, but others elsewhere . They think people chose to be gay. They call them sinners . But when called on it, they say that they hate the sin, not the sinner, and that is lame. They are out there. It isn't fair but a few do discriminate against gays and lesbians in many ways.

Interesting, whether is should or should not have been is an opinion, but I wanted to stay as factual and maybe legal precedent. Just to be in full disclosure, I used to be fine with gay marriage. Now, I'm really on the fence about it because of this activist approach.
Can you expand of this constitutional grounds for not banning? Is the "pursuit of happiness" part?
Now, I do want your opinion on the approach here. In the OP, it says gay marriage has been banned in 42 states. To me this is an utter failure to the activist approach. What would have been a better way to go about this?

I do not feel persecuted and I am also not in favor of banning gay marriage.
I used it because that is how I felt when I heard Gavin Newsom's speech back when the gay marriage debate started up.
It maybe over used now, but I still feel that way.
