Good News for Mitt Romney

Posted by Lindsay Ferrier

Mitt RomneyThings are looking up for Mitt Romney lately.

It was announced today that Mr. Romney out-fundraised Barack Obama in May by $17 million. This marks the first time he's outraised the president this year.

Even more troubling for the Obama campaign is the latest news on the jobs front. On Friday, the Labor Department announced that the unemployment rate rose last month to 8.2 percent. To put that in perspective, The New York Times reports that no president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been re-elected to a second term when the unemployment rate on Election Day was higher than 7.2 percent.

In short, it has been a good month for Mitt Romney.

Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told reporters yesterday that news of Mitt Romney's fundraising numbers was not unexpected.

"That should serve as a clarion call to our supporters and our donors," he said. "We anticipated that they would beat us this month."

Meanwhile, the Obama team is using big names to spark donations. Last month, two campaign donors won tickets to a celebrity dinner for the President at George Clooney's home. This month, Obama supporters could donate to the campaign for a chance to win an invitation to a dinner with President Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, followed by a concert featuring Mariah Carey.

With a faltering economy at stake, it's shaping up to be a tight race. A new poll shows Mr. Obama leading among swing state voters by just two points. Pollsters from Purple Strategies write, "Despite still trailing, Mitt Romney has reached his highest vote total since our tracking began in September of 2011." Expect the state of the economy in the coming months to play a huge roll in voting decisions this November.

I'm not surprised.  More Americans are realizing that Obama can't deliver on what he's promised and in many cases has made things worse.  Obama can spin and spin and the Hollywood types can pile on the lovin' but this is telling:  The New York Times reports that no president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been re-elected to a second term when the unemployment rate on Election Day was higher than 7.2 percent

I think it shows that we put too much emphasis on fund raising.

I'm so excited* for another 4 years of Obama...

Well, it look like I responded to your post too quickly..lol  If I had seen this I would have just kept my thoughts to myself.  Funny thing about apples falling from a tree Rachel.  You can pick one up that has just fallen and it can still  be used and then there's some apples that stay on the ground too long that are full of worms and you have to discard them.  We have a lot of bad apples in the gov today.. But alas..I'm not going to say anymore..you have made up your mind and I respect "anyone's" vote.  It's your right to choose whoever you want to vote for.

Good news? The wind is blowing to the right today, tomorrow it will be to the left. And while you nut jobs are arguing about whether the direction is good or bad, I'm left wondering why you aren't paying attention to the source.

Okay Ellish, I clicked on the source..I'm assuming you mean Lindsay Ferrier.. This is actually the first I have heard of this woman.. It's not saying much from what I clicked on.

While that isn't the source that I was speaking about, Lindsay Ferrier is a joke, IMO. Fashion blogger for CM turned political guru who supposedly knows all about what mothers are looking for in a candidate.

Actually the source that I was speaking about is the fact that if you were to put Obama's and Romney's record and rhetoric side-by-side, and without any dates, that you'd probably have a very hard time telling the difference between the two. The neo-conservative Republicans and the progressive-socialist Democrats are the same thing. They aren't just close to being the same thing, they are the same thing. So it doesn't really matter when the wind of political opinion go to the right or the left, because its all the same damn wind.
