Manchin, other Top W.V. Dems, plan to Skip DNC

(CBS News) Three Democrats from West Virginia, including first-term Sen. Joe Manchin, are skipping the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C. this September, where President Obama will formally receive the party's presidential nomination.

The West Virginia Democratic Party told reporters Monday that in addition to Manchin, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Rep. Nick Rahall do not plan to join West Virginia's delegation. State Party Chair Larry Puccio said Sen. Jay Rockefeller will attend and will serve as the group's honorary chair.

Mr. Obama is unpopular in the state and lost 41 percent of the West Virginia primary vote to a convicted felon. Manchin -- who faces his own re-election battle this year -- has said he's not sure he'll vote for Mr. Obama.

In a statement explaining his decision to skip the convention Manchin said, "I intend to spend this fall focused on the people of West Virginia, whether that's representing them in my official U.S. Senate duties or here at home, where I can hear about their concerns and ideas to solve the problems of this great nation. I will remain focused on bringing people together for the next generation, not the next election."

The senator has opposed the president on some high-profile issues, voting with Republicans to support a failed amendment to authorize construction on the Keystone pipeline as well as a failed amendment on the issue of contraception coverage.

It is not just West Virginia, any candidate in a swing state, will put as much distance between themselves and Obama as they can, we are looking at an anti-obama landslide.

There were plenty of "upset" dems last time around when they threw Hilary under the bus.  I'm betting a lot of the dems are regretting that move.

Mark Critz, the democrat who replaced John Murtha in PA, won't be attending the Dem Convention either.

He won't win a single swing state this time.

No Florida, no SC, no NC, no VA or WVA, no Ohio, no Indiana, heck states like Penn, Wisc, and Colorado are in play. There is no electoral path to victory for Obama, he is done.

He is rearranging deck chairs on the titanic right now, he was a little behind here in NC the day after we rejected SSM, he comes out for SSM,now he is down double digits and the black preachers are telling blacks to stay home. He grants amnesty to the illegals, of course that loses him support with legal resident aliens and unions. He kills the Keystone Pipeline to get the green vote, and loses the blue collar vote with the loss of all the union jobs.

He is an Amateur playing in a world where Professionals get their ass kicked regularly.

He has no idea what to do, he is done...tick tick tick.

In 2008 WV was smart enough to know where Obama stands on the coal industry.  WV wasn't fooled the first time and they won't be fooled this time.  OH is still wishy washy.  In 2008 too many Ohioians fell for the composite "Yes, we can. Hope and Change Guy".  They were too mesmorized by set designs and class warfare blame the other guy rhetoric.
