Great news!

The Reading, PA school board voted to bring back the pre-k program for the 2012-2013 school year, says Bryan Sanguinito, President of the Reading Education Association.

Now we can't take all the credit, of course, but we like to think that our recent coverage of the crisis in Reading helped bring some attention to the cause. As Bryan says, "There is much more work to be done, but at least this is a good start!"

Does your school district offer a pre-k program?

Those over the poverty line are the only ones who qualify for the preschool program at my sons public school and if you are lower income you have to drive one town over to head start. Does that make any flipping sense? Youre poor so spend gas every day driving your kid 30 mile everyday?

I'm not sure.  I think so.  I don't know what the requirements are for it, though.

I think it's important for school districts to offer pre-k.  There is so much that kids are supposed to know by kindergarten...at least here there is.  Private preschool is fairly expensive around here considering what it is.

Yes but it's only for low income

We have pre-k for those with IEP, and we have a small program at the high school that is chosen by lottery.

Most here go to private preschools, we are a district with enough income that most can afford it.

We have excellent, top notch public schools.

Same here.  I know they do but I don't know the requirements for it.  My dds went to a private preschool so I didn't look into it.  I agree that it does help.  I feel kids need the structure pre-k provides to adjust to the school day in K.  Ours also has full day K!  I love our school district.  :)

I am a busy working mom to two very active girls.  I love my kids, play on the floor in the fort with them, take them to the park, and love them always!  I can't imagine life without them!

York, PA public schools don't offer it. Wish they did.
