Ours don't either - the truck is mechanicalized to lift and dump the trash itself.

They just started this in our city. And they come very early for the most part.

The point I think this guy is trying to make, has already been made by Romney himself.  He doesn't care about the "little guys" in this country.  His focus is solely on the ones who control the purse strings.  Obviously, not many of us are warm and fuzzy with our trash collectors.  Romney's statement about not wasting his time trying to convince someone (47%) like this trash man to vote for him, proves how out of touch he is with regular working people.  What's funny is Romney missed the boat and a possible supporter by refusing to acknowledge this man.  Perhaps a simple wave or a 30 second conversation.  I am a rural mail carrier, and you would be surprised at how many customers offer me bottles of water or a can of soda or any number of things.  Small gestures that mean a lot.  Simple human connections.  Not blatant snubbing and spoken disgust of those who aren't in your tax bracket!

No "point" was made here except that the libs are desperate.  What's next?  An interview at the local sewage treatment plant where the worker there complains that Romney never hugged him either?

That poor, put-upon trash man is a government worker whose average pay in that area is 75k.  Yeah, that is a lot more than many people make.  I don't hug my trash man or give him water.  He is likely doing better than I.  The trucks are automated, he is not allowed to "lift" anything, and he is doing the job he CHOSE to do.   In fact, he should be hugging ME because I have to follow all the darn rules regarding throwing crap away that make his job that much EASIER.

Yep hubby and I work.  Neither one of us has ever seen the WM people.  I did know the mailperson of one of our past homes but that was just because I happened to be on maternity leave at the time.

A lot of working people aren't even home when the garbage collector arrives.

I live in San deigo!!! I think I would know if he was in San deigo!!!!

I think MR does have a house there...don't know how often he's there, though. I have a hard time believing residents come out and give hugs to their trash guys. I live in a friendly area and I've never seen that. I have given drinks to our landscape dudes, but never thought about WM workers. They're here and gone so quickly. Do these people sit on their curbs just waitng around to shake his hand and give him a drink? ;) Sounds like bs to me.
