Curious-Question for Conservatives About the News

Posted by   + Show Post

So, many of you make it clear that you consider most news sources unfairly biased.  I'm curious--which news sources do you consider fair and unbiased (or least biased)?

Thanks for the replies. It's interesting to see what people turn to for news, and there were a couple things listed that I've forgotten about, so I'll take a look.

Also interesting to note no one mentioned print news, either papers or magazines. I can't say I have read a newspaper in a long time. At best I may scan headlines or read stories if they appear in a search, but not my go to choice these days either.

I watch a variety of News stations,  from Network, to CNN, a little FOX but all the yelling makes me turn it off They just sound so angry all the time ;P

I do not watch HBO or listen to any talk radio.

I do watch both Colbert and Stewart for comedy mixed with Politics but hard to take that serious although at times I do agree with both of them.

I try to take a balance approach to all this.

I have yet to find one news sources that doesn't let their bias show.  We don't have cable, so I tend to steer clear of the cable news shows - for TV news I watch local news and then flip between abc news and nbc news - although after the ME crisis I am tending to watch more NBC...they seemed to cover that more than ABC.

For online news I mostly wade through a variety of sources, but have found that blogs tend to find the most interesting news stories.  I always follow the links back to the original story and have found that often comments contain more information than the news articles themselves.  Sort of weird how that is.

I think that is also a fair question for liberals.

My view?

Television news is bullshit.   Television exists to sell you something, and the cable news stations are no different.  Local news is not much better, but you got to get your morning weather report from somewhere.

Otherwise, I peruse breaking news headlines off of websites to get a general gist of what is going on, and then read on-line analysis to provide insight.  In my experience, if the source is only telling me what I want to hear, than I shouldn't be reading it (for this reason, I avoid Huffington Post.)

I like political reporting from John Dickerson, reporting on social issues from William Saletan, and I love the economics blog of Mathew Yglasias.  All of that is from slate.com, which is excellent in challenging my satus quo. And, most importantly, since this is about how I spend my time, I like how they write.

Fox news is not news in your opinion, because they don't say what you want to hear.  To say they are not news, is just wishful thinking on your part.

Even the original source can be biased.  That's why it is good to have a variety of reporters and eye witnesses telling the same story.

Quoting jaxTheMomm:

I don't think you can ever consider just one news source.

Quite often they will all pick up one thing from a wire and run with it, and you have to find the original source to determine what's actually going on and that can take some time!

Fox news is not news.

No, Fox News isn't news because they are selling a product.  The product they are selling is "worldview that you like."   And many, many Americans buy it.

An original source isn't biased.  It's the source.  Only the reporting of it can be biased.  (And it always is -- towards selling you.)

I don't think there is any "balanced" reporting that I've seen from any one station.  Even PBS seems biased.  I will say that I've never seen so many media outlets pine over a President like they do over Obama in my life.  You would think he cured cancer or was Elvis reincarnated.  They portray him in imagery as a savior or a King with a white or golden glow, and praise his pandering to the Hollywood soapbox egos.  No one seems to care that he shut out C-Span from the health care debate after promising to be the most tranparent administration in history.  No one seems to care that he's circumvented congress with executive fiat against the will of the people, or that he's fired CEO's of Companies he didn't own, and took over two of the largest private industries (auto and healthcare) to increase the government footprint of control.  No one cares about the increased domestic spying under Obama when it was such a huge deal under Bush, and the impending takeover of the internet and digital communications which he is aggressively pushing for through the FCC.  He bows to leaders that wish to wipe us off the map, and a good portion of the public adores him.  I just don't get it.  I think he and his entire socialism loving administration is dangerous.

Another person who doesn't suffer from willful blindness. I find all of these passes and making excuses that people do for Obama very dangerous indeed. In fact I sometimes wonder what kind of spell or whatever that causes people to say it's all OK. I've said it before & I'll say it again, I seriously believe that Obama could shoot someone dead on the street, for no reason, and people will jump to his defense and before you know it, it's the dead innocent person who gets the blame. I can't even count the number of times I also asked someone, anyone to tell me exactly what it is that Obama has done to even try to improve the economy. I never get one single answer. After four years he & his followers are still spouting what he says he wants to do. This is the same crap he said 4 years ago. I don't think he plans to do one single thing. Sorry, I know this was OT, I just get so angry at how they don't get it.

Sign the stimulus bill into law.

(And you didn't even ask!)

I have asked many, many, times. OK, yeah. I got one item he has done. And where is that Stimulus money now. Most of it went right with those bankrupt companies that put how many more people out of work. 1100 from Solyndra alone.

Can't speak for you, but I got a tax cut and a library.

I dont think any news channel CAN be unbiased, because the people who put them together are naturally biased. Some have a more conservative bias, others have a more liberal bias. Each has bits and pieces of the truth scattered throughout.

Well of course Fox News is news.  Exactly the same as MSNBC, and all the other news networks.  They ALL sell their product.  One is no different from the other.  You only have to switch channels to hear how each one reports the same thing, but with their own views.  The only way you can know something for certain, is to hear it or see it happen first hand.  Even one person reporting the event can change up the dynamics.  You surly aren't so biased to believe your view, is the only correct view.
