Could you survive if your pay was cut in half??

I was wondering those who are for the Obamacare. Do you realize that companies will Drop Full time employees, to part time just so they don't have to give insurance. That means more jobs, but less hours, which means less pay. My DH's company just had a meeting with their higher up management & let them know that if Obama is elected that they WILL have to be prepared to drop all employees that aren't management down to 20 hrs a week or below. Now tell me how this is better? Companies around the country are already preparing their plans to let people go and or drop their hours. Where in a perfect world free & affordable health care would be great, but in reality doctors are NOT going to skimp on their pay just because we would like to have good health care. The money will come from somewhere. Just some food for thought.

My husband's company hasn't said anything about this so far. He is management, salaried and has been with the company for 22 years. But they haven't gotten raises in a long time, in fact he got a 5% pay cut a few years ago and we had to start paying for insurance. The premiums go up each year and the deductibles and co-pays also go up.

I think all the pro obamacare people are going to be shocked at the premiums their "affordable" healthcare will charge, along with the out of pocket (deductible & co-pays) costs.

Companies have been reducing hours and posting PT positions + pro rating insurance coverage for employees in an effort to defer benefit costs, particularly HCBs for YEARS.

While I did not support the ACA, I do know that our current hcs [for profit] is unsustainable and needs reform.

! I've been hearing similar stories just like this for the last couple of days and quiet frankly i feel a lot of companies are scaring their employees with this "oh if Obama is voted for another term well have to lay you off/cut your hours" to make people vote for Romney because they know that Romney will try to get rid of obamacare so these multi million dollar companies don't have to cover there employees. I'm sorry that your spouse was told this but I'm calling bluff on this

I've been seeing this a lot already I'm not sure its solely Obamacare that's the problem. I know a lot of ft employees who've lost their jobs only to be replaced with two pt employees, who except lower wages and go without benefits.

Obamacare is definitely going to make it worse.

How could it possibly ever be anything other than for profit?

IDk I guess we will see. I just will feel bad for those employees that will have to find a second job, just because of this change. I know that companies are trying to cut costs already. Just makes me sad that this is what the worlds come to. I really hope people can come up with better solutions with our healthcare system then whats happening.

My guess this is exactly what Obama and the liberals want should he be re-elected ... it's just adds to their goal for single payer system.

Mine has been doing this for a couple years to reduce costs (healthcare and retirement). Not because if Obamacare, they just want to save .

This isn't a new trend, and it will continue with or without Obamacare, ultimately driving healthcare costs higher because we have a growing Labor force with no insurance at all.

So getting rid of Obamacare isn't the solution.

I am so glad someone else has caught on to and vocalized this reality of Obamacare. I don't believe it is a scare tactic as many companies have actually began the cutting process already (of course this has been occurring the past 8years due to many factors but the recent cuts have been directly correlated with the threat of Obamacare on those companies). Obamacare is a great idea in theory, but like many other democratic policies, it is always costly in other spectrums and our economy can't handle the price.

Yep. People need to realize that YES it would be great if we all could have affordable healthcare, but the reality is thats not going to work. Everything WILL suffer from it. Either our healthcare providers will not care as much because their pay will decrease. OR they will find the money from somewhere else. People need to quit living in the clouds & come back to reality.
