Fact-Checking Romney‚Äôs Comment: Syria is Iran‚Äôs ‚ÄėRoute to the Sea‚Äô
The Left is giddy at Mitt‚Äôs latest alleged gaffe, pointing out that Syrian and Iran do not share a border, thus Syria can‚Äôt be any sort of ‚Äúroute to the sea.‚ÄĚ The Daily Kos posted this handy graphic to make the point:
The Washington Post fact-checked the statement and at least added a source that said Romney‚Äôs comments ‚Äúare more accurate than they first seem‚ÄĚ as Iran is building a military base in Syria. And, of course, if Iran wanted to land terrorists into Israel by boat, it‚Äôs a shorter trip from Syria to Israel.
But let me further illustrate the Left’s stupidity on this with a little graphic of my own. Here’s a map of U.S. military bases in the region, courtesy of al Jazerra:
As you can see, all of the routes to the sea favored by The Daily Kos military experts are what you might call ‚Äúblocked‚ÄĚ by the U.S. military. If Iran is attacked, their routes to the ‚Äúsea‚ÄĚ will be cut and supply from Syria will be one of their few options.
The quickest route for Iran is through the Suez Canal, which the US provides lots of $$$$ and support to Egypt for. Before Mubarak fell, Egypt wouldn't let Iran send ships through the canal unless they were boarded and searched and all indicators are that it is continued now.. And Iran needs ports on the Mediterranean, not to refuel, but rather to unload weapons and terrorists to infiltrate Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan and as a launch point to filter out to the rest of the world. Educate yourself sheeple baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
