Reid Seeks Permission For Popcorn During Senate Viewing Of ‘Lincoln’

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid is reportedly seeking permission to allow popcorn during a special screening of the movie “Lincoln” at the U.S. Capitol.

Reid (D-Nev.) set up the viewing of the new Steven Spielberg film for Dec. 19 at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center and even invited the acclaimed director to join, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

But food is not allowed in the auditorium, so Reid is reportedly asking the Senate Rules Committee for a special waiver to allow popcorn and movie snacks for the viewers, according to an ABC News report. Fox News also reported that the waiver would allow for bottled water, in addition to the snacks and unbuttered popcorn.

The screening is said to be open to Reid’s fellow senators and their spouses. BuzzFeed obtained a letter signed by Reid and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that announces actor Daniel Day-Lewis will also attend the screening and stick around with Spielberg for a Q&A session afterward.

“We believe that viewing this film would provide all senators with a positive opportunity to gather and reflect during this holiday season,” the letter reads.

Reid told the Review-Journal that he loves the movie so much he’s already seen it twice.

Harry Reid is a consensus builder, I think that he can pull the sides together on this one, unbuttered popcorn is the key, if he had been hardcore and insisted on buttered, I think that this deal would have gone over the cliff.

At least he's not digging through private Mormon tax records to make unfounded claims about a fellow Mormom.

Let him keep looking for popcorn.  It minimizes the damage to the country he can do.

Reid has already seen the movie 2 times.  Perhaps, after his 3rd viewing, he'll finally comprehend that it was the Repbulicans who pushed forth the 13th Admendment and several weak-kneed Democrats didn't want it to pass.

Where's he getting the popcorn in the first place? Isn't corn supposed to be used for ethanol and not a food source?

First Christmas trees, now popcorn!

Here's a little bit of reality: Reid has this thing called a "staff". The staff does all sorts of things! They even write letters to waive rules against popcorn. And then...then Mr. Reid does this exhausting thing called "signing his name to it." That takes well into two minutes (after he "reads" it).

My goodness, THIS is certainly much ado about something.

And the highly fractured Democratic party during Lincoln's era hardly represents the modern Democratic party. In fact, to try and draw parallels to the two is silly. They actually have more in common with today's Republican party. Read your history, ponder it.

Election campaign vs. policy making choices.  Ok.

Neither one has anything to do with his job description.  Harry Reid is an inept senator, but adept at looking like he's busy.  I guess that puts him ahead of Joe Biden.  Gotta love American standards.
