Obama Orders Raise for Biden, Members of Congress, Federal Workers

12:50 PM, Dec 28, 2012 • By DANIEL HALPER

President Barack Obama issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a raise. One federal worker now to receive a pay increase is Vice President Joe Biden.

According to disclosure forms, Biden made a cool $225,521 last year. After the pay increase, he'll now make $231,900 per year.

Members of Congress, from the House and Senate, also will receive a little bump, as their annual salary will go from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House, will likewise get an increase.

Here's the list of new wages, as attached to President Obama's executive order:

"A new executive order has been issued providing for a new pay schedule beginning 'on the first day of the first applicable pay period beginning after March 27, 2013,'" reports FedSmith.com. "The pay raise will generally be about 1/2 of 1%."

Jeryl Bier points to an example of the pay increase for average government executives:

"Not much of an increase, but an increase all the same," Bier notes.

And the timing isn't great either: Just as President Obama and Congress try to avert going over the "fiscal cliff," he doles out pay increases to federal workers.

According to the article, these people haven't received pay raises in OVER TWO YEARS.    MOST companies, public & private, have recovered enough from the recession to have granted modest raises to their employees this past year.   Why should federal employees be any different???   Or are you just "one of those" who can't find any REAL complaints about Obama's job performance, so you just grab onto any little thing you can find?    (Yeah.  Truth hurts).

Now why don't you post something about how the republiTARDS in Congress are going to propel our country back into recession -- because they have pledged not to raise taxes on their millionaire campaign donors???

BTW -- it's a ONE-HALF percent raise, which doesn't take effect until MARCH.

lololol....."truth hurts??" lololol  Sigh.....you really have no clue to how much the rich provide for the U.S.A. do ya'?  They pay more than the majority of Americans but hey.....drive them away from the U.S.A.  Sounds like a nice plan, huh?  If Obama was serious about the fiscal cliff, then he would not just gave many that are already making over $100,000 per year a raise.  Hell, he can't balance a budget or get the government off of a continuing resolution but he should can sign an executive order!

And your point is what?  We will be in more debt by March.

While I think it's silly for anyone to get so worked up over such a small percentage of pay raise, I'll say what I said in the other post about this. I think this is a bad idea simply because it does absolutely no good for the morale in our country in a time when the U.S. so desperately needs a BOOST in morale.

Hell, I haven't gotten a raise in 10 years and neither have most people I know. The positions/people listed haven't done their jobs and don't deserve a raise.

Great, another reason to steal more money from those of us who WORK.

Its bad timing/poor taste to be giving them pay raises with the debt issues the country is having.

What did Congress/ Senate do to deserve a raise?  Vice President Biden?

So this is why Obama is so dead set on raising taxes..... we got to pay the empty suits more money.  And if they get more, we can't pretend that they are more important than anyone else, so nothing gets cut, either!  It all makes so much sense now!!

I wish I could say they deserved it ... but they don't.  Many of those positions are the reason for the mess we have in this country.

Besides, the amount they are making, along with their perks, is plenty for such low approval ratings while other Americans work their butts off for a small percentage of those salaries.
