Wendy's: To Boycott or Not To Boycott

OMAHA, Neb. (CBSDC) - Hundreds of Wendy's workers are seeing their hours cut back because of President Barack Obama's health care law.

WOWT-TV reports that nearly 300 employees at 11 Wendy's locations in the Omaha area will have their hours reduced to 28 hours a week because the franchise owner says he can't afford to pay his employees health care.

"It has a huge effect on me and pretty much everybody that I work with," employee T.J. Growbeck told the station. "I'm hoping that I can get some sort of promotion because then I would get my hours, but everybody is shooting for that because of the hours being cut."

Gary Burdette, vice president of operations for the local franchise, told WOWT-TV that he can't afford to keep the fast-food restaurants open if he has to pay for his employees' health care.

The president's Affordable Health Care Act requires businesses to pay health care for employees that work more than 32 hours a week.

The Supreme Court ruled the health care law was constitutional last summer during a contentious debate.

Does Wendy's still make sea salt fries?  If yes, I won't be boycotting anytime soon.

Why boycott a company for trying to stay open?

I think celebrities angry that Wendy's can't afford healthcare for their employees have a couple of reasonable choices of actions they can do in this situation:

1) Boycott all employers who have had to hold off hiring people, reduce hours, only have 49 full-time employees because of Obamacare. That would be a boycott of most employers in America. They could then grow Victory Gardens and start their own farms. Or they could purchase all their food, goods, electronics, cars, etc. from offshore companies.

2) Or they could just themselves subsidize healthcare for Wendy's employees. It would be a kind and charitable thing to do out of their 1% multimillion dollar fortunes - and I'm pretty sure it's tax deductible.

That way, these celebrities can put their money where their mouth is, actually do something positive about the situation, be generous with all the wealth they have been blessed with, and feel good about it.

A Win-Win for everyone!

Wonder what the excuse was over the last decade when companies were doing this exact same thing?

Profit over people, always-

You should boycott for the fact that the food is crap! Please be mindful of what you put in your bodies. You are what you eat!

I wouldn't boycott Wendy's, just like I don't boycott Hobby Lobby or Chick-fil-a. People are slowly becoming aware that the "Affordable Care Act" is not as affordable as everyone first thought.

So, does no one offer their workers decent health care? Seems like the state of health care availability was even worse than I thought.

NO! Make your own ice cream with fresh ingredients. Trust me your body will feel a lot better for it.

No. I worked in healthcare for years and not once did any of the medical offices or the hospitals offer health insurance. Ironic

DH's current healthcare plan has a $2500 per person deductible. Yeah that is not going to help at all.
