CBO: Obama’s Health-Insurance Expansion Eroding

The number of Americans projected to gain insurance from the U.S. health-care law is eroding, by at least 5 million people, as the Obama administration struggles to implement the $1.3 trillion overhaul amid Republican opposition.

About 27 million people are expected to gain coverage by 2017, according to a report today from the Congressional Budget Office. The CBO had projected when the law passed in 2010 that 32 million uninsured people would be on a health plan within a decade, and a year later raised its estimate to 34 million.

Expectations are being pulled back as the expansion relies on governors to build a network of insurance marketplaces and expand Medicaid, the joint federal-state insurance program for the poor. At least 22 Republican governors have said they’ll refuse to participate in the health exchanges and a Supreme Court decision lets them also opt out of the Medicaid expansion.

There is concern “about a combination of factors, including the readiness of exchanges to provide a broad array of new insurance options, the ability of state Medicaid programs to absorb new beneficiaries, and people’s responses to the availability of the new coverage,” the CBOsaid.

In addition, as many as 8 million people will lose health- care plans now offered through their employers, the CBO estimates. After the health law was passed, the CBO projected that about 3 million people who would otherwise have employer- sponsored insurance would lose that coverage.

...A spokesman for the White House, Bradley Carroll, declined to comment on the CBO estimate.

Exactly what we cons have been saying all along.  No way in hell would 32M people be able to get coverage....not gonna happen.  But the saps bought it, hook, line and sinker, and re-elected him.

Besides which, we are already short something like over 1,500 primary care physicians right now.  Where do they think we are going to get enough to care for millions of more people added to medicaid and insurance company rolls?

This whole debacle was created on a fallacy, and should implode on itself.  However, hundreds of thousands...or maybe even millions...of people are going to be hurt in the process.

Actually, Obama doesn't really want it to work.  He wants these exchanges to fail, so that we will eventually have to have a single payer, i.e., the gov't, system.  With the gov't deciding your care.  Ask any medicare patient how hard it is to get approval for a lot of procedures.  Also, he just screwed Medicare out of 75 M to pay for this disaster.

Seems to be happening alot lately...opponents of Obummercare, are right! hmmm...wonder why that is?

Obummercare is a travestry. Barry SOLD his '08 campaign out. He garnered Kennedy's support practically overnight, after promising to make nationalized health care his cause.

Anyone other than me remember what congress, the insurance industry and the media did to Hillary when as First Lady she wanted health care to be her cause? They committed verbal assault and battery.

Kudos to all the small, short minded ones that thought Obummercare was a great idea. We said there'd be doctor shortages, long back ups for CT's, MRI's, getting procedures approved IF they get approved. But NO you libs all said we were full of shit..

Gov't approved hospitals, surgeries, overnight stays, admissions, dialysis, chemotherapy (didn't think of that one did ya?)

Gov't approved md's, NP's, PA's...like your doctor? Have fun finding a gov't approved one.

gov't approved radiology, Cat scans, MRI's, Xrays, mammograms, radiation therapy

gov't approved medications, antibiotics, blood pressure meds, birth control, antacids..

Good luck getting an OTC medication...

need I go on??

Are we moving forward yet??
