Debbie Wasserman Schultz: Sequester nearly starving staffers

Automatic federal cuts are bringing staffers to the brink of starvation, suggested Debbie Wasserman Schultz, at a recent House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee hearing.

Restaurants on the House side of Congress are increasing in cost so much that aides are being “priced out” of a good meal, she said, as Fox News reported. The comments came by way of a discussion about the impacts of the sequester on lawmakers’ office budgets. Rep. Jim Moran said he may be forced to lay off a staffer — and then Ms. Wasserman Schultz weighed in with her tale of hard times.

Just to clarify: An 8-ounce bowl of Ham and Bean soup at the Cannon Office Building’s carry-out café costs $2. A gourmet wrap or sliced bread sandwich sells for about $5. And in the Longworth Building’s sit-down cafeteria, a serving of stuffed chicken, asparagus and mashed potatoes sells for about $7, Fox News finds.

Meanwhile, Ms. Wasserman Schultz’s staffers earn between $60,000 and $160,000 per year, Fox News reports.

Oh no! They may actually have to pay the prices that everyone else has to endure. We should cut the pay in half now so that they can see how it really is for most.

Please. There are children STARVING in every state of the US. For this bitch to compare her overpaid staffers to the plight dealt her Americans truly in desperate situations is pathetic! Her staff can damn well pack their lunch if they find the prices in the cafe too expensive for their salary. No sympathy, no support here.

So Debbie strikes again with her lies? Big surprise....NOT! I love Rush's name for her...Debbie Blabbermouth-Schultz.

If they are making that much and can't afford these prices? Hmmm.

Oh boo hoo DWS! I'm sure there are thousands of people who could make ends meet just fine with some left over. Some ideas:

1) Rather than restaurants, have these staff bring their lunch. Can easily save 20-60% or more.

2) I'm sure some of the 30 million people in the US struggling to find work would love to take these jobs - and would not complain about the salary.

Those prices are low .  I live on  long island and restaurant food is much more expensive than that

You can't do these jobs from podunk american where the cost of living allows someone to survive on 60K a year. Did you know a family of four qualifies low income housing in DC at 85K and below per  year.

Exactly. Which is why just about no one in government even lives in DC, but in a surrounding area.

Given the discrepancy of the reported "incomes", the $60 K staff are likely part-time workers. Or get low-cost housing- like many of the American people. Or have a second income, as the majority of families of four where on earns $60 K do.

Plus, you are not even considering these federal government workers' Cadillac benefit plans - which increase their effective income by 50-100%

These staffers can always quit their horrible poverty-inducing DC jobs and get one in podunk America.

And why these staffers often work in the public sector the rest of their careers.

And why once they get their foot in the door, they feel they have "made it".

And who can forget DWS's "love/hate" (hate) relationship toward public and private truth-telling. Ask Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Doug McIntyre (LA morning radio host), the US Israeii Ambassador, etc. Her "truthiness" is an awesome wonder to behold. If DWS said there was a fire in the building, her own staff would likely call 911 to confirm, yawn, continue doing their work, and hold onto their wallets. Most people don't put any stock in anything DWS says.

And why is it that no other Congressman or woman is complaining of this same issue ? Hmm. Obama-esque sequester scare tactics? Say it ain't so, O.
