POLICE POLL: ARMED CITIZENS, NOT GUN CONTROL, WILL LOWER VIOLENT CRIME

In a poll conducted by PoliceOne, an overwhelming majority of law enforcement personnel said "universal background checks", "assault weapons" bans, and "high capacity" magazine bans do not make police safer and will not lower violent crime. Armed citizens, on the other hand, do make a positive difference.

In the poll of 15,000 law enforcement professionals throughout the nation, between March 4, 2013, and March 15, 2013, 71% of respondents said an "assault weapons" ban would have zero impact on violent crime. Of those surveyed, 96% said the same of a "high capacity" magazine ban, and 80% said the same in response to a question on universal background checks.

Over 90% of these law enforcement professionals said "mandatory sentences with no plea bargains" for those who use a gun in perpetrating a crime would reduce violent crime.

When asked if they supported concealed carry laws for citizens who have not been convicted of a felony and/or not been deemed psychologically/medically incapable, 91% of respondents answered "yes, without question and without further restrictions."

Additionally, 80% of these law enforcement professionals also agreed that casualties at Sandy Hook Elementary would "have likely been reduced" if "legally-armed citizens" had been in the school.

Trying to take our guns away would NOT be a wise move!

No amount of gun laws will keep criminals from killing people.

No amount of murder laws will keep criminals from killing people, either.

yes cause that is exactly what is needed in this over violent society, more guns:/  Crime and murder are going to happen no matter what but having more guns on the streets is certainly not the answer:/  Who is taking your guns away?  What is wrong with extensive background checks for private sale of weapons?  You have to register your cars if you sell them privately, that means the responsibility falls on the person who owns it now, why not register your weapon you sell to a neighbor?

No one is trying to take guns from private citizens.  Most police also say that a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds is not necessary for any private citizen.  Most police are also in favor of thorough background checks.  I have a number of police officers in my family - they are certainly not in favor of banning private gun ownership, but they are also not in favor of allowing anyone to purchase a gun without a background check or owning high capacity magazines.

So what do the police think will best decrease violent crime?

Their answers may be surprising......
