If the media decides it isnât interested in the hearing, the Obama administration will not be held accountable for the Benghazi casualties, he said during his monologue on Tuesdayâs episode of Fox News Channelâs âThe Five.â
âAs three key witnesses are about to testify regarding the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, one question remains â who the hell cares?â Gutfeld said. âI mean really, it happened such a long time ago, and what difference does it make? Which leads me to another question, what kind of story merits examination?â
âThe thing is Benghazi isnât complex; itâs very simple,â he continued. âPeople needed help on 9/11. They were denied. Four people died. The government falsely blamed a video. You canât get any easier than that. Thatâs Scandal 101. Even Howie Kurtz could follow it, and he is an idiot. Especially compared with other massive scandals â Watergate: people lied, no one died,. Benghazi: the president chilled after people were killed. Wouldnât that merit hard hitting reporting on par with Watergate?â
But Gutfeld predicted that since Obama is not a Republican, the scandal could ring hollow since the media seem to be invested in the presidentâs performance.
âMaybe if it were a Republican involved, not if itâs Obama,â Gutfeld said. âSince the media gatekeepers have so much invested in the president, his incompetence reflects their poor choices. They are the parents in the grandstand blaming the ump for their sonâs ineptitude. They are the pals covering for their buddy when heâs out with another girl. They are the guy who holds on to your drugs, which is why when Obamaâs first impulse was to falsely push a video, no one really cared.â
âSo tomorrow, you can ask all the questions you want,â he continued. âBut if the media decides itâs not as interesting as Valerie Plame, those questions are irrelevant. Maybe the administration will be held accountable. The media â never. Their only punishment is that they have to live with themselves, which might be punishment enough.â
