Star Witness to Defense Attorney: ‘That’s Real Retarded, Sir’

Text

Testifying again today, Rachel Jeantel, the star witness in the George Zimmerman trial, said that one of the defense attorney’s suggestions was “real retarded.”

Jeantel, who was speaking with Trayvon minutes before he was shot and killed, said that she had no reason to doubt anything Trayvon told her on the phone. Don West, attorney for the defense, asked: “Maybe if [Trayvon] decided to assault George Zimmerman, he didn’t want you to know about it.” Jeantel replied: “That’s real retarded, sir. That’s real retarded to do that, sir.”

Some commentators have observed that Jeantel’s demeanor in court has been less-than-friendly both today and yesterday.

Oh, it's okay to say that now, Barbara Walters and Whoopi said so.  You know like when Bill Maher used it in a joke about Sarah Palin's son.  So no foul.

But seriously, was this witness vetted at all?

Good Lord, when she was questioned by the attorney, the Martin family was in the room. TM's mom was right next to her, and was crying at one point. Dee Dee is very naive, but told West that she felt pressured to change her testimony under oath. The family should have never been there.

I hear the prosecution wants to drop her as a witness. Which would mean the defense cross examination would have to be tossed. Can they do that??

All I kept thinking was someone spent a lot of time coaching her to say sir lmao! She's not a fast learner....by any stretch.
