Right Wingers Post Fake Race Riot Video After Zimmerman Verdict

Vancouver riots, Rueters

Videos of rioting in Miami began circulating quickly after last night’s not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman murder trial. But there was no riot in Miami.

The conservative media were beating the riot drum all week.Fox News host Bill O’Reilly asked his guests if a not guilty verdict would trigger rioting. The conservative Washington Times polled its readers, and 74% said there would be riots. The self-styled National Liberty Foundation offered a how-to-survive the riots post that includes a potpourri of conspiracy theories about the Department of Justice, New Black Panther Party, and Russian troops being brought into the U.S. to put whites in FEMA camps. And at The Other McCainRobert Stacy McCain made this boldly racist prediction:

So it was hardly surprising that a video of a riot in Miami began circulating on Twitter within two hours after the verdict was announced last night.

Except there was no riot in Miami. The video was from the 2011 Stanley Cup Riot in Vancouver, Canada. The debunked video has since been deleted, but that probably won’t matter. After all, two store windows were broken in Oakland, prompting this reader response:

blacks are animals this wasn’t a big surprise that they riot

As Time‘s Marc Polite wrote Thursday, conservative stories of blacks rioting in the wake of the Zimmerman trial defy recent history … and reinforce the narrative that caused Trayvon Martin’s death:

The last major racial riot occurred in Los Angeles after four police officers were acquitted in the brutal beating of Rodney King. That was 21 years ago. Since then, there have been several other racially-charged cases that might have provoked an outpouring of protest but did not. The police officers who murdered Sean Bell in a hail of 50 bullets were acquitted in 2008, and no riots ensued. The indictment of the officer that shot and killed Bronx teenager Ramarley Graham was tossed out earlier this year, even with footage of the police following him into his Bronx home. His mother didn’t call for riots. She made t-shirts to protest.

In some ways, the calls for order recapitulate what this case is all about – the assumption of violence on the part of the black community, and of black men. No one seems to be concerned about the possible violence of Zimmerman supporters if Zimmerman is convicted. To try to preemptively deter the black community from taking matters into their own hands should they feel justice has not been done is ironic considering that Zimmerman’s actions themselves were a kind of vigilantism – a violence above and beyond what many, including the prosecution and Martin’s family, feel was necessary.

Of course, George Zimmerman was a white Hispanic and the son of a former Virginia magistrate. His dad even wrote a book arguing that blacks are the real racists. In fact, writes Cornell law professor William Jacobson at Legal Insurrection, “this was a case that never should have been brought. It’s not too early to demand an inquiry into the prosecution of this case. Angela Corey should resign.”

So white people who kill black teenagers shouldn’t even go to court. Because blacks are violent … even if conservatives have use video of rioting (white) hockey fans in Vancouver to prove it.

But this trial wasn’t about race. Oh no….

Gee, maybe right wing sources were worried about riots, because that is what a lot of black people do when they get pissed at white cops or the justice system.

So, some idiot posted a picture of a riot in Canada, and said it was in Miami.  Fox News didn't report anything on a riot, other than the group in Oakland.  Neither did any other right wing source.

So, a riot has to be large, in order for the person in your post to think it counts.  LMAO. Your, once again, uninformed sources left out these riots:

  • 1996: St. Petersburg Riots (St. Petersburg, Florida): After Officer Jim Knight stopped 18 yr. old Tyron Lewis for speeding, his car lurched forward and Knight fired his weapon, fatally wounding the black teenager. Riots broke out and lasted for about 2 days.[citation needed]
  • 2001: Cincinnati riots (Cincinnati, Ohio): In a reaction to the acquittal of Steven Roach after the fatal shooting of an unarmed young black male, Timothy Thomas, during a foot pursuit, riots broke out over the span of a few days.
  • 2003: Benton Harbor riots (Benton Harbor, Michigan)
  • 2005: 2005 Toledo Riot (Toledo, Ohio): A race riot that broke out after the Neo-Nazi protest marched through a black neighborhood.
  • 2006: Fontana High School riot (Fontana, California): Riot involving about 500 Latino and black students[53]
  • 2006: Prison Race Riots (California): A war between Latino and black prison gangs set off a series of riots across California[54][55]
  • 2008: Locke High School riot[56] (Los Angeles, California)
  • 2009: 2009 Oakland Riots (Oakland, California): Peaceful protests turned into rioting after the fatal shooting of an unarmed black man, Oscar Grant, by a BART transit policeman.

I remember the Rodney King beating and the riots well. I don't live in California so I didn't see it first hand but it was all over the televising. Those police officer were defiantly in the wrong and that can not be disputed. It's even more wrong that they were found not guilty but rioting certainly didn't help it just lead to injuries and loss of property of  innocent people who had nothing to do with it.

As far the video of what is supposed to be Miami is concerned I know a mom posted it on this site last night and quickly had to go back and edit that it was a fake. Was she a right winger? I don't know. She is Muslim and most American Muslims (except for me) lol are not right wingers.
