Broad generalizations are meaningless.

I don't know any Liberals like that. I'm sure there are some but I haven't met them yet.

If the CEO of a company decides it should move production from the USA to a foreign country with lax laws on pollution, worker safety, worker pay, child labour etc, and as a result of that decision people suffer and die...

...is the CEO personally responsible in a court of law, or should he be able to shelter behind the collective responsibility of the company?

If, 200 years ago, an elderly widow starved to death in a town full of rich people, any three of whom could between them have afforded enough spare to keep her in food and fuel during the winter, who was responsible?

Could not each individual have said "I'm not individually responsible!  Others didn't give, so even if I had given to her, it wouldn't have made the difference between her life and her death?"

The concept of "collective responsibility" is, at its best, not an excuse, not something that relieves one of the burden of individual responsibilty.   It is an additional burden - a way of saying "Even if we can't pin this down to someone in particular, between us we've managed to cock up, and it is now responsibility of ALL of us to work together to fix what we've let slide."

How do you feel about people taking care of their own retirements (i.e., get rid of social security)?

How about replacing government welfare with private charity?

Both of these touch on personal responsibility.

As a side note, can you reply like everyone else at the top?

Hmm...I must have missed my memo about shirking my responsibilities...

What should happen when people retire?  Where do they get income?

What happens when people don't work?  Where do they get help?

Not everyone else replies at the top.  But whether it is best to top post or bottom post is a thread of its own.
