I think I see the issue now

I have a very conservative friend who I love talking politics with. Usually I play devils advocate ad leave my middle of the road mindset to counter his argument with a more liberal view.
I have noticed that when he talks it is always slamming the liberals by generalizing them as all extreme left.
I finally brought this up to him as we were driving to work. I smiled and said "have I ever made a generalization about conservatives?" He replied no.
I told him that the way he debates politics is the issue in our country today. When someone is labeled as either left or right they are put to the extreme of each side. There is no middle road. He admitted that I had made a good point.
Without realizing that people are not extremes we can't have honest debates.
Thought a few people here should realize that :)

I agree. It is a lot of stereotyping and generalizations and lazy thinking.

I have found that the vast majority of American people fall to the middle politically speaking- It's why our country seems to be at a stand still and those who fall at the polar ends are so disgusted. The polar ends are the most unhappy, it seems. They do not realize that most of America leans toward the solid middle-

It has to be hard living on the fringe-

The generalizations are usually only applicable to the extreme fringe groups- there are likely a few CMs who reside in one of the fringe groups.

I'm confused by your point. Some people have extreme views and others more moderate views. Typically not on all topics.

But your auto correct had me really amused! I get so annoyed by autocorrect sometimes. I almost think I should shut mine off and just misspell everything!

Was that auto correct or divine confirmation that the left is all wet?

On my cell, I can correct the auto correct. You change the spelling before you hit "Send".Or "add reply".

Lmao. This damn phone!

My point is that while I may lean extreme left or right on issue A I may have an entirely different position on issue B. Or Iau fall in the middle on the issues.
