Pat Buchanan: Holder deflecting from Obama's 'wholesale incompetence'

On Tuesday, Pat Buchanan accused Attorney General Eric Holder of shamelessly playing the "card of the victim" to draw attention away from President Barack Obama's "wholesale incompetence."

Last Sunday, Holder alleged that some Republicans oppose President Barack Obama due to "racial animus," and Buchanan said that Holder is "mistaken" for thinking that Obama is "under attack for racial reasons."

Appearing on the Laura Ingraham Show, Buchanan, who just published The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose from Defeat to Create the New Majority, said it was "very, very weak" of Holder to lob such accusations.

"The attorney general is playing the card of the victim--that somehow people are after him because of his color--when the American criticisms that are coming down on Obama are coming down from people who even used to support him and voted for him," Buchanan said. "And it's because of wholesale incompetence. And this is the defense they're throwing up, and it's a very, very weak one."

Holder also suggested those who say they want to take America back are also motivated by "racial animus," but Buchanan said that when Americans speak about wanting to "take America back," they are talking about wanting "the America that we grew up in--culturally, socially, morally, in a way that was a good conservative country--that it was really a good country."

"And we think the cultural revolution of the 1960s, and a lot of what it produced, and the pornography, and all the rest of it...we don't think it's as good a country as it was," Buchanan said.

On ABC's This Week, Holder, who has also said that Americans should be "color brave," instead of "color blind," said he still believes, as he did in 2009, that America remains a nation of cowards, "too afraid to confront racial issues."

He then spoke about "a certain level of vehemence" that he felt was "directed at me [and] directed at the President."

“You know, people talking about taking their country back," Holder said, "there's a certain racial component to this for some people. I don’t think this is the thing that is a main driver, but for some, there's a racial animus.”

No, it's incompetence animus.

In any other setting, Obama would be fired for doing such a crappy job.

That's not an argument, it's a non sequitur. Congrats, that wins you a prize - a large bowl of Dum-Dum lollipops.

Come on, it is inane to forgo cogent arguments and instead say "I hate that person!"

This is a political debate site. Debate is sorta the whole point. You give reasons for your opinion. It does require more thought to give reasons you can articulate for your opinions.

Want to try again, and this time, respond to the actual arguments he made?

Not for anything but 6 years ago, Americans were praised for their color brave-ness AND blindness.

It's amazing to me, how when Obama's incompetence is (attempted to be) discussed, we're racist.

I've said this before, hold him to a standard-you're racist, DON'T hold him to a standard-you're racist.

Which is it Mr. Holder?

There is no denying that congress and the republican party has a personal issue with the race,Holder and of this president.Everyone in America is starting to see this visceral hate on display.

Republicans(extremists) openly race bait and then get angry when called out on it.They have no sensitivity to other cultures. They do not have any manners. They cant even function because they are obsessed with the fact that we have a black president. They even had a hissie fit and shut down the government over Obamacare???.

No other president has endured such disrespect, hate, and racism. No other president has had a do nothing congress, been blocked on so many bills, been sued for doing his job,had a hate group within the opposite party(Tea Party),have racists floats against the president, and had a mob of racists outside the white house with Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz flying confederate flags, and racists hateful signs, yelling for the president to leave.

Never even caring about Sasha and Malia.Very sick and twisted.

Yet all of this of course is not racist. No one said the "n" word and no black person got lynched. What is the definition of being racist to a racist?

It means being a white supremacist and pushing it on everyone you can.Recruting whites and race baiting blacks. It means being able to be a bully and race bait.It means never being questioned, never being held accountable...

And of course never ever being called a racist!

The president can only do so much.

Under all the circumstances he is doing the very best job he can.To call the president incompetent with a do nothing congress to work with is an unfair assessment.

Also Sally I have to please ask you to stop personally attacking people in the group. You can call a post dumb, you can call the president dumb, just please stop the personal attacks.

This is a great politics group. No need to bully, get nasty and personal. We dont want people getting banned or leave the group.

When you voted for Obama, did you vote for him to be the leader of this country?  That is normally what Presidents do.  Every other President has worked with Congress, negotiated, worked with some give and take.  This President wants his way or the highway.  That is not a good leader.

She voted for him because he looked like her - no more, no less - nothing else was considered.

You don't need me to confirm that - she tells us that, every day, every post.
