Did the party invite contain a disclaimer, such as "We may be taking a vote on doing a food order during the party.   If you don't want to risk ending up paying up to $20 for food you might not like, don't come." ?

Citizens of a democracy have 18 years advance warning that they're likely to get taxed if they stick around.

"I voted 'no' to pizza."
"Too bad. A majority wanted it, so now pay for it."

Yep, pretty much.

Realistically, your alternative is a country where you still risk being stuck for a bill, but you don't get any input at all and the food provided (if any) is whatever the dictator of the decade happens to like (and too bad if the dictator likes anchovies, and 90% of the population don't).

It isn't democracy that you have the objection to.   It is the existence of nation states.

At least he got pizza.  If they were all republicans, he'd have pay for the rich people to eat the pizza.  And then they would tell him how much better off he was without pizza.

Lol. Democracy or dictatorship. Those are the only two options. Haha. Nice one!

I don't think you know how it works.

If you don't want the pizza, you can leave. And starve.

In reality if you don't want to pay the taxes, you should just stay home and go off grid  ( buy lots of candles, store lots of firewood,  in preparation ,etc. ), grow your own food, and never get out and see the world or visit family unless you are prepared to take the horse and buggy ,ya know. Just a few examples.

You don't get to use the freeways that enable you to travel from coast to coast, for example, among many things you take for granted. ( I believe that tax evasion is expensive ---fines--and might involve jail time ...which of course means you won't be driving on those freeways, etc. )

There is no free lunch. You have to pay for the things that civilize us.

This is my country too. The "just leave" suggestion isn't a solution.
The taxes have specific purposes, and I disagree with them being taken from one person and given directly to another. There are definitely good purposes for taxes, such as national defense. I'm not suggesting going tax-free.
Also, there would be roads without the government.

And I disagree with the giving of large amts to foreign countries and to defense contractors.

National defense could be handled much more fiscally responsibly.

SO, perhaps we can all get personal exemptions for the things that we morally and personally disagree with funding. You, for example, to meet the needs of people. For me, it would be the killing and maiming of others (most often times, innocent people).

We can all nit pit our favorite morally and personally depraved budget item.

If it's good enough for the owners of HL, it should be acceptable for everyone.

Let's see how quickly we fall to the level of El Salvador.
