Sheriffs: Exec. Amnesty Will Unleash Illegal 'Tidal Wave'

Law enforcement officials have a message for the American people: If the president issues an executive amnesty, be prepared for a new wave of illegal immigration at the nation's southern border and beyond.

Breitbart talked to sheriffs about the issue.

"The law applies to you and I as citizens, and yet it appears there is no law when it comes to illegals," Pinal County, Arizona, Sheriff Paul Babeu said. "The message the President's action will send is this: if you can get to the border, you're home free. It completely undermines the rule of law and makes the job of every law enforcement officers - which is already difficult - impossible.

"We already have our hands full because the border is not secure: imagine what the situation will look like when the president gives executive amnesty to those already here. It would unleash a tidal wave of illegal border crossings, overwhelming law enforcement. It will be open season for the cartels."

There is talk that President Barack Obama will push through an executive amnesty order after the midterm elections that would grant amnesty to at least some of the estimated 11 million illegal aliens currently living in the United States.

Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, said if the GOP takes control of the Senate in Tuesday's midterm election, the Republican-controlled chamber would fight hard to make sure amnesty "doesn't happen."

Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin said the same thing: "We're already going through the court system on other unconstitutional executive orders that he's worked on, and we would add this to the pile."

The immigration control problem might not stop at the border states. Frederick County, Maryland, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said the issue would be felt nationwide.

"In my opinion, based on what I've seen, every county in America will become a border county," Jenkins told Breitbart. "What we're going to see from the President's action is not only the cost to healthcare, social programs, and education, but the increase in criminals coming into our country.

"You're going to see increases in crime, infiltration from transnational gangs, the drug trade and human trafficking."

Rockingham County, North Carolina, Sheriff Sam Page agreed.

"Human trafficking, drug trafficking and criminal activity are coming through our borders, but not staying near our borders - it's getting into every part of the United States," Page told Breitbart. "This is a public safety issue - a terrorist or any other kind of criminal may cross our borders. We just don't know who is coming across.

"We're not catching but a small percentage of those coming across. This will place public safety in our communities in danger, and taxpaying citizens will be left picking up the tab."

Last week, the president of the National Citizenship and Immigration Service adjudicators and personnel union - which represents employees and agents at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services - said an executive order on amnesty is a bad idea.
