Christian Couple Killed By Mob For 'Blasphemy'

A Christian couple accused of desecrating a Koran have been killed by a mob of Muslim vigilantes in Pakistan.

The husband and wife, known only as Shama and Shehzad, were beaten to death. Their bodies were then burned in the brick kiln where they worked.

Policemen in Kot Radha Kishan, southwest of Lahore, were unable to save the couple, and are instead trying to arrest the ringleaders of the angry crowd.

Pakistan already has strict laws which ban blasphemy, and minorities accused of insulting Islam or the Prophet Mohammed often face the death penalty.

But whether someone is convicted of making derogatory remarks or not, even the slightest allegation has been known to lead to violent killings, as the law is often misused to deliberately target minorities.

A Christian woman has been on death row for four years in the majority Muslim nation after she was found guilty of insulting the Prophet Mohammed during a heated argument.

In September, an elderly Scottish man suffering from a serious mental illness was shot by a prison guard.

Mohammad Asghar, a 70-year-old from Edinburgh, had been sentenced to death for blasphemy in January.

What is the source of this article?

And to think, some want our own country to be a theocracy.

Anything like this that may have happened, it is disturbing and wrong on many levels.

There is almost no one in the country that wants this to be an actual Theocracy.

You said almost no one.

A few are in this very group.

Almost no one - is a required disclaimer.

Some think we never went to the moon, some think we blew up the twin towers ourselves, there are a few outliers on any subject - I am not aware of a single person in this group that wants a Theocracy.
