for curriculum? do you use a boxed program. or design your own? do you do unit studies or lap books? interested in knowing what works for all of you.
We don't use a boxed curriculum, although we did try that approach in the past. We use several different resources, texts and unit studies. Here is a list of what we are using this year:
DS#1 (grade 5)
Math Mammoth Light Blue Series along with IXL
Head of the Class Language Arts with a Harcourt Language Arts workbook
Apologia Flying Creatures of the Fifth Day (Yes, this is a Christian science program, but it was what my DS wanted this year.
The Usborne Internet Linked Encyclopedia of Ancient History along with unit studies on Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome from Simple Schooling
The McGuffey's Eclectic Spelling Book (free on Google Books) along with Spelling City
The Lambs Book of Art
Various unit studies and lapbooks
we use some of this, some of that and none of those. lol
it's easy with the kids being so young. they really don't care what we do and they don't notice when we "play" and it's really learning.
Araya got a "lite brite" for x-mas and we are using it to " learn our letters" . today it's an A and we are thinking of A words, A pictures and we are praticing writing A.
I always created my own curriculum and made sure it was centered on the child I created it for. I used a little of this and a little of that depending on what that child needed at that time.
We use a variety of materials for homeschooling. Currently we are using:
Connect the Thoughts Upper Level Science Basics and Biology & Human Health. Biology class at the local zoo.
Easy Grammar Ultimate 8th grade
Megawords- 5 (1st semester) 6(second semester which starts next Monday)
An online writing class
Teaching Textbooks Algebra
Lively Latin book 2
Connect the Thoughts American Civics
Classes at the National Archives
Classes at the local history center
