Chief of Police Glenn Chrisman and the law enforcement agencies of Rutherford County cordially extend an invitation to the general public to attend a memorial service in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day 2012. The service will be held Thursday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. on the Murfreesboro Civic Plaza which is located in front of Murfreesboro City Hall.
The purpose of the ceremony is to remember and pay tribute to all law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice, with a special emphasis on those officers who were killed in the line of duty while serving in Rutherford County. The ceremony will include officers from all law enforcement agencies serving in Rutherford County including: Murfreesboro Police Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, Smyrna Police Department, LaVergne Police Department, MTSU Public Safety, Tennessee Highway Patrol, U.S. Marshall Service, Veterans Administration Hospital Police Department, and Eagleville Police Department. Chief Chrisman will preside over the ceremony and family members of the slain officers will be in attendance.
Following the ceremony, the Fraternal Order of Police will place a wreath on the law enforcement memorial monument on the Public Square.
 
Officers honored in Rutherford County include: Herbert McClanahan (1946), Samuel Enoch Vaughn (1953), Lewis Hendon (1957), Joseph Tomlinson (1999), Kay Rogers (2005), Byron Motley (2006), Matt Lovejoy (2007), Andy Wall (2011).
