5 Good-For-You Turkey Recipes: Cheap & Healthy Foods

Click here to find out more!

Turkey Recipes: Real HealthyIt rules the Thanksgiving table, but for the other 364 days of the year, turkey is reduced to near-obscurity. This is a complete injustice! For starters, turkey tastes just as good on an ordinary Thursday evening as it does on Thanksgiving. And this versatile bird is also a great way to add variety to the regular pork, beef, or chicken dilemma that most of us regularly face when planning our menus.

Turkey is also a healthy choice, and it’s really affordable. Thanks to the Environmental Working Group’s “Good Food on a Tight Budget” website, turkey’s great qualities are finally getting the respect the poultry deserves.

Take advantage of the season’s bounty of produce by making our delicious pomegranate-glazed turkey with roasted fennel. Or how about a rich and hearty cream of turkey and wild rice soup? And doesn’t a shredded turkey and pinto bean burrito — which takes only 20 minutes to prepare — sound great on a busy weeknight?

Here are some of our favorite turkey recipes. And if there’s one thing they prove, it’s that enjoying turkey only one day a year is a disservice to both the bird and to your dinner table!

Turkey Fingers with Maple Mustard Sauce

Turkey Recipes: Real Healthy

Juicy and flavorful turkey fingers are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. The dipping sauce showcases a sweet and spicy combination of mustard and maple syrup.

Cream of Turkey and Wild Rice Soup

Turkey Recipes: Real Healthy

A twist on the classic soup, this healthy alternative is loaded with veggies and turkey. Using low-sodium broth and reduced-fat sour cream ensures the soup is nutritious without losing any flavor.

Pomegranate-Glazed Turkey with Roasted Fennel

Turkey Recipes: Real Healthy

This elegant recipe is a delicious variation on the classic turkey-and-cranberry combo. Sweet and tart pomegranates pair beautifully with turkey cutlets, and roasted fennel gives the whole dish complexity and flavor.

Shredded Turkey and Pinto Bean Burritos

Turkey Recipes: Real Healthy

Here’s a new way to serve leftover turkey, in a Mexican-inspired dinner with these tasty burritos. Pinto beans, also known as chickpeas, are a creamy compliment to the tangy flavors of tomatoes and lime juice.

Turkey Tenderloin with Whiskey-Cherry Sauce

Turkey Recipes: Real Healthy

It tastes decadent, but this dish is actually quite healthy, thanks to cherries and a tasty lean turkey tenderloin. The whiskey in the sauce gives the dish just an edge of smokiness.
