i love the 4th! this past weekend we took the kids to the yearly carnival, went to a fun and super nice outdoor party, and watched our neighbor's ridiculous, amazing firework display from our front yard.

tomorrow we'll go to the fireworks with the in laws and on wednesday we'll all go to the parade with a large group of friends. this has been our 'tradition' since we moved to the area about 6yrs ago.

how are you celebrating? any traditions you keep?

We used to go to the family farm every 4th for fireworks and homemade icecream. The farm had been in the family since the great depression, and when my grandad got alzimers, they sold the farm and moved closer to his doctors and his wife's kids. It's been about 2-3 years since we've been able to celebrate at the farm. I kinda miss it. To add salt to the wound, they sold the farm for significantly less that what they could have gotten for it and the farmhouse itself is now a rent house.

Instead of going to the farm we're going to my mother's house for hamburgers and probably no homemade icecream :-/ I like fireworks, but I don't know if we're going to go to any displays. Dh isn't into the patriotism being British and all, and while fireworks are pretty to atch it's much more fun to blow stuff up. Unfortunately we don't have the money to buy anything, so I'm afraid the 4th will be slightly boring for us.

Me too!! Except we get a weekend and that's it. Americans throw a waay better party than Canada. I spent the 4th in the states a number of years ago and it was amazing. But our traditions are the parade, the concerts on the beach, then the fireworks, so it is a good time. (it was a whole lot more exciting before I was a mom tho)

I agree juice, we don't do enough for Canada Day. It's kind of a fizzle here and there, not the giant BANG the 4th of July gets in the US. I wonder why that is...hmmm...we need more national pride!

We go to the lake.  There's a huge display that goes up over the water and all lake goers watch by boat.  I love it and miss it.  Ever since Master Q was born last May, I haven't been out to see the fireworks.  He prefers to go to bed around 7.  I can't wait til the kiddos are older; there's so much for families to do/celebrate.

we used to either go to a ball game or watch the macys fireworks from our apartment building...now that we have a LO, I am not sure - we will probably do the baseball thing still but we moved out of the city...we will be taking her to the lake and have a picnic - that will probably be a new tradition of ours

We used to go to the Peir and watch them, however now that Hubs is gone, the 4 of us do nothing. I picked up the night shift anyways. I might sneak out and use the new camera for some nice shots. Other than that nothing I can do.

Oh and hopefully they do the fireworks like usual. Idk tho since we're under a burn ban and my town has banned personal fireworks.
