Summer Grilling Challenge Day 6: Grill Maintenance
How often do you clean your grill? To keep your grill in tip-top shape all season, remember to:
- Grease the grill with a little bit of cooking oil or spray before heating it up to help keep food from sticking.
- Pre-heat your grill before you start cooking and brush the grates to remove any residue from the last time you used it.
- When you're done cooking, brush the grates again to clean off any residue
- Let the grill cool completely and then cover it.
- Every 10th or so time you use the grill, remove the grills and grease drippings pan and clean all of them with hot water and dish detergent.
Do you do any of these? Do you clean your grill after every use?
Did you miss yesterday's challenge? Here it is! And don't forget to sign up for daily reminders here.
My DH will scrap the grill with a scrapper. Use easy off grill cleaner, then thoroughly wash it off with soap water. He does spray a grill oil on it before he cooks to eliminate a lot of sticking. Once it is clean off and cooled, he puts the grill cover back on it.
He is a self proclaimed grill master, so he takes the care and maitenance of his grill serious.

Quoting mom-1kids-3:We pre-heat & clean the grill before each use. We also use a spray before putting the food on the grill.
What type of spray do you use? Does it help things not stick?
We just use Pam or what ever store brand we have on hand. It does help with things sticking.
Yes, we definitely clean up after every use, but I never heard about taking it all out to clean with detergent after every 10th use or so. That's a new one.
Quoting countrygirlkat:Dh is the one that cleans our grill because he does all the grilling. I have never watched him to see exactly how he does it but I think he does all of these things.
Why is my husband the only husband who doesn't handle the grill?! Hmmm.

We are pretty diligent about doing all of those things except for the last one. I probably really should do it more often.
