Summer Grilling Challenge Day 6: Grill Maintenance

How often do you clean your grill? To keep your grill in tip-top shape all season, remember to:

  • Grease the grill with a little bit of cooking oil or spray before heating it up to help keep food from sticking.
  • Pre-heat your grill before you start cooking and brush the grates to remove any residue from the last time you used it.
  • When you're done cooking, brush the grates again to clean off any residue
  • Let the grill cool completely and then cover it.
  • Every 10th or so time you use the grill, remove the grills and grease drippings pan and clean all of them with hot water and dish detergent.

Do you do any of these? Do you clean your grill after every use?

I do it pretty much what they say here.  Not sure if it is the 10 time I have use the grill that I clean everything.  I look to see what the drip pan looks like and when it looks like it is getting full or I know I am going to cook something very greasy I clean it.

We pre-heat & clean the grill before each use. We also use a spray before putting the food on the grill.

We clean it every time we use it. If not it will get gross and attract bugs.

Also make sure you know all the parts to your grill.  We had an extra drippings tray that was kind of hidden and it caught fire.  Now we make sure that is clean as well as the other parts!!

I need to be better about cleaning the bottom   I do clean and brush off the grill after each use, and cool before covering.
