When I'm trying out a new recipe and want DH (very picky) to try it, my first priority is to make sure it smells great. If it doesn't smell great, it doesn't matter what it looks like or what's in it...he's not trying it.

With my kids, the trick is to have them help me cook. They're willing to try just about anything they've helped cook.

What are your new recipe tactics? How do you get your family to try new dishes?

Don't ever serve wild rice hot dish then.  That is some seriously stinky and ugly stuff.  but wow, it tastes soooo good!!

I normally try to trick them into liking it (they are 4 & 6) so they are still easier persuaded.

Both of those are important. We also make the kids try one bite of something new unless it has something like hot pepper in it.

If is has a crispy coating, my husband likes it. :(

I have an easy family with meals. They'll eat anything I give and usually like it.

I just tell them to eat it or they will go hungry. Luckily my husband will eat anything. My child is a little pickier though. In our house, you have to try everything twice before you decide you don't like it.
