Halloween and candy go together like peanut butter and jelly. You just can't separate the two. It seems like the opportunity to pop a bit sized piece of chocolate into your mouth presents itself around every corner.
But, it is possible to sneak in some healthy eats here and there, and still keep your family in the spooky spirit of the season.
I've been making this skeleton crudité for the past few years. The kids love the spooky shape, and I love the fact that they are eating their veggies. And, it's a great way to be creative. If you get the kids in the act, they'll be that much more excited to eat the finished product.
Here's how you do it. Gather a variety of veggies and use them to create a skeleton on a tinfoil lined baking sheet. Here's an example of how to build the perfect veggie skeleton:
Cherry tomatoes for eyes
Lettuce leaves for hair
Mushroom slices for ears
Carrot sticks for collarbones and arms
Radishes for elbows and knees
Sliced bell pepper for the rib cage
Celery sticks for the legs
Serve with your favorite dip.
Moms, how do you keep your family healthy during the holidays?
Very cute idea. I love the thought of a healthy treat for Halloween versus all that candy.
Cute idea. I don't have a lot of healthy ideas yet because this is really my first holiday being healthy.
