Ordinary French toast becomes outstanding when it's made with cinnamon swirl bread and flavored with delectable gingerbread spices. It's a fabulous way to start the day!
3 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 pkg. (16 ounces) Pepperidge Farm® Cinnamon Swirl Bread (16 slices)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
Pure maple syrup
Beat the milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg in a 2-quart shallow baking dish with a fork or whisk.
Place 4 bread slices into the baking dish and turn to coat. Heat 2 tablespoons butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the dipped bread slices and cook until they're lightly browned on both sides. Remove the bread slices from the skillet and keep warm. Repeat with the remaining bread slices. Serve with the syrup.
