When to use foil?

I am getting a new Paula dean cookware set for Christmas (shhh it's a secret), & some people tell me to cook with aluminum foil to protect the baking dishes. I have never used foil except when making pizza. So when should I be using foil?

We use foil all the time. We use it for extra messy dishes so there is little to no clean up. We use it for things like lasagna, baked ziti, baked mac and cheese and things like that.

Does it effect the cooking time or temp?

I agree with the above, I use it as a pan liner especially when I'm expecting a lot of clean up!  Enjoy your new cookware!

It's good to use tin foil, (less mess & no stains.... Yes you CAN get cooking stains on cook ware!)

But doesn't the foil scratch the baking dishes?

I worry that foil isn't cheap and it's not biodegradeable. Quality bakeware should hold up to the task it's designed for. I use a coating of cooking spray, and some elbow grase if nec.

I always line my pan with foil when I make brownies.  When the brownies are cool you can just lift them out on the foil and it makes cutting them really easy without scratching up the sides of the pan.

I use foil for most of my cooking needs.  It makes clean up so much easier.
